Through the pirate market called Black Market Alpha, Tricorder is
still up for download. I realize that it is technically stealing the
app, but it is good to know that its still floating around in
cyberspace for people to download.

I never uninstalled mine, and I still use it. It has become the beacon of proof that my Moto Droid is by far, way better than iPhone

I just checked, the other andriod tricoder is still up on the marker, still 99  cents and looks more like a tricoder then this one does.  Lets all mount an email compaign to either pull that one or restore thos one.

Its nice that some people have the luxury of not needing to go out
searching for it. But since it was removed from the official Market
before my DROID Bionic was released... that is why I pointed out BJA
as an alternate sorcery for others to get their hands on such a useful
app.

or... You could just ask us here if someone could send you a copy. ;)

If you have the Tricorder app installed on your phone. Then back up the Tricorder app to your SD card using a "file manager" app. Then you can use a app like the File Expert app to send a copy of the backed up Tricorder app to other people.

If sent via email it will have to be something besides Gmail. Gmail will not let you download a app file to your phone. If you have your Android phone enabled to receive email from AOL or Yahoo you'll be able to directly download the emailed Tricorder app into your phone.

This isn't theft. The app has AFAIK always been free to download, and
is licensed under the GPL v2.

Also, you need not install alternate markets to get Tricorder. I will
be posting a new, non-infringing version to the Android Market in the
next couple of days.

But I like the infringing version. My Bionic hates the alternate
modes, but i still use it

I want to copy tricorder from my old phone to the new phone.
I did not understand how to do the backup thing.
How can I get the apk onto the SD card?

Just use a file manager to back-up the Tricorder app to the SD card. Then use a file manager to email a copy of the backed up Tricorder app to yourself.

Upon receiving/retrieval of the incoming email on your new phone. Go to your phone's settings menu. Set your phone to allow a app download from a non Android Marketplace source. Now open your email and download the Tricorder attachment from your email.

That's the method I used to transfer all of my app's that I use that's no longer available from the Android Marketplace. I made a folder in two of my email accounts for "Backed Up Apps". That way I can always have an access to the apps I use but are no longer available. Even if both of my phones would crash or be stolen. I still have a copy of those apps.

I followed the URL in the latest post (Resurrected! on the Tricorder wiki) but it results in a 404.

Have they shut this one down as well? : (

Thanks,
Hannes

Is anyone actively maintaining Tricorder anymore? I still have the old version on my device however since the ota to jelly bean the app is starting to show more and more bugs and errors/crashes. would love to see someone breath new life into the wonderful old jem.

I don't know.  I thought the Copyright Police had eliminated the use of the name Tricorder.  Is it available under a different name?

I'm sure the original complaint was the LCARS swept design, the name tricorder should be fair use, as there's an X Prize specifically for a tricorder, without mention of copyright holder. The new app was uploaded with the swepts turned to 90 degree edges, which should have been enough, but again, it's hard to fight design rights.

Nothing made sense in the whole mess, but sadly they can take it down
without reason or justification :(

If you ask me CBS was just being a dick. one would think if you completely redid the ui and scraped the Lcars type look it would be perfectly fine. It would be nice to have a tricorder like multi tool that works with all the various sensors. I am guessing at the end of the day the only way you could make CBS happy is to make it not look or even sound like a tricorder.

The APK will be on your phone somewhere still. If you hock it up to your computer you could just run a search for apks over the internal card. You probably need route access for that though.

I have 5.12 on my HTC One M8 currently, the Grav and Mag don't worked and 5.11 same thing. Come to think of it 5.11 and 5.12 didn't work on my HTC One S either. Grav and Mag last worked on my old Nexus One, I think it was with 5.11.

Hey, I'm working with an Alcatel One Touch Evolve Android 4.1(I know. Do t laugh), does anyone know which version works on this platform without crashing? I downloaded the latest one, 5.9 I think, but eventually uninstalled it due to constant force stops. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.

You totally rock, Dude!
Still love this app.
Loaded onto my Galaxy s5, and no problems (one stop, but it recovered).

Does anyone maintain this?

If so, Feature Request would be: The WRT "Wi-Fi 3D" Cloud Source Locator, which totally Rocks.  Would be a fantastic add-on to the Wi-Fi Scanner, and the code is probably available.  I used to be able to write code with the best and would do this, but they ruined me by making me an exec...  :'(

Thanks!
