Gruff Alternative

Hey guys,

Anybody know of a good Gruff replacement? I remember someone
mentioning it tonight but I don't remember what it was called.

I'm the one who mentioned not to use Gruff. Rmagick leaks, Gruff had
plenty of bugs and the whole thing is a pain in the neck to get working.

We're now using Google Charts (forgot which Rails plugin) and live has
been much easier. I'm sure there's plenty of other good solutions out
there. If you can live with Flash or Javascript, quite a few charting
libraries exist for those (and they're quite nice as well)

Jennifer talked about using a javascript port of Processing. I've seen
some pretty amazing stuff done with processing and had no idea it had
been ported to js.

I think the library Carl was talking about is this one:

I actually used it as a sample for a php version which I never
published because I only ever implemented pie and bar chart
functionality since that was all I needed. gchartrb seems very
intuitive to use though.

Yeah from what I've seen there's quite a few alternatives to Gruff out there.

I've been working with JRuby which doesn't use the same RMagick, so
the leaks aren't really an issue. I didn't really have a problem with
Gruff not working. The thing I like about it is that the code is nice
and simple, so I can just freeze the gem and tweak it to what I need
it to be.

Gruff itself ain't too bad (although we had to fix a few bugs), but
installing rmagick for MRI is such a mess, especially on OS X that it
was driving us crazy. We dig the simplicity of Google Charts as well.
