Hi group,

Office Hours now has a website, generously built by Alexandre Croteau-Pothier, a Office Hours regular. Check it out at: mtl.rubyofficehours.com

On the site, you'll find the date of the next event, as well as a way to declare your attendance using your Github account. Pretty cool! The site is open-source, of course.

Attendance has been pretty good, with 5 people showing up last Wednesday. Join us!

Regards,
Max

Oh yeah! The last office hours went really well. Don't forget to register your attendance to this week's Office Hours (Wednesday at 9am) on our website: mtl.rubyofficehours.com

This week, we're gonna try to do a bit of code reviewing and/or pair programming, and see how that goes.

See you there!

This past Wednesday's Office Hours sucked. Only Richard and I showed up. It seems like either 6 people show up or just 2.

Office Hours will keep happening as scheduled for the next few weeks. I don't want to keep whining when attendance is low, and my point sure isn't to make anyone feel bad for not attending. It's a startup like any other, and it's up to the community to vote with their feet. The problem with low attendance is that the people that do show up are discouraged from coming again, which turns into a vicious circle.

Richard had a very good idea: Maybe we should try positioning Office Hours as an opportunity for companies to meet, code with, and interact with potential employees or contractors. Or maybe introduce more structure to the event, in the form of code reviews or pair programming.

Maybe I could also reduce the frequency to twice per month, once in the morning and once in the evening.

Thoughts?

I love the new positioning idea!

I actually never though of even mentioning ROH to a business owner / CTO who's looking for a Rails dev. Now I will :-)
