Christa,
Simms has their essays revised and ready with biographies, but their Heritage Fair is Tuesday, April 1, and Jenny told me they would be ready to pull together photos, etc. right after that. However, I’m sure they won’t make the April 1 deadline.

Hi Christa,
Townsend report:
Progress for us is very slow. My essays are terrible this year—so bad in fact, that I wish I had never heard of 1910. Perhaps, I can ruffle through some old ones—we’ve revised—but I don’t think my students have delved deeply into the research this year…and they seem satisfied with mediocre. We are working on descriptions for photos.
We are trying—but I could certainly use a miracle.

Subject: Submissions for 1910 Book?
Sorry I've been so slow to respond, but we've been on Spring Break.
Apparently we're all having problems with 1910 - my students have not
become as excited about this era as they did the decades where they
went out and did oral interviews. We still are not ready, but I'm
hoping we carry through on this project because I told my students that
three essays would be published. Also, when my superintendent said he
would give money "in the spring," he thought it would be for the
publication of a book. One of my students came in this morning after
working on his essay over Spring Break, and he was so pleased because
he had cut it to 3,000 words. Oh, dear. Dottie was talking about this
same problem in Helena.
Also, Beth's students are working on a final set of three essays, but
she said they are not ready yet.
And...Nancy is in Italy visiting her daughter for the month of April,
but she said that she has three essays written last year (or earlier?)
than she will send to you when she gets back.
So...where are we are this project? Have you heard from Sarah?
Mary
On another note, the Montana Historical Society has been very excited to wo
rk
with Heritage again. They will be putting on a Summer Institute of sorts.
It
is partly their project and partly a chance for us to work with potential
Heritage teachers. Kirby Lambert is spearheading it and should get me some
more information soon. Some of you may have heard from him already. The
project is a county histories study. Many of the MT counties are approachi
ng
either a 100 or 150th anniversary and they would like researchers to pull s
ome
of that history together into community presentations. Since we are all
muddling through 1910's anyway--may not be too difficult to contribute
to. They would be covering the expenses.
Anyway, I'll let you know more when I get the information from Kirby.
Thanks for all you are doing to keep the project going. I know it is a
difficult time of year!!
Sarah
