Hi -

We have a PRODUCTION Cluster with 3 config servers(recommended) and 4 shards(each a replica set).

We have procured 12 licensed mongod nodes.

My question is, does the 3 config servers need to be licensed mongod nodes? According to the 10gen site, config servers are NOT a part of licensed mongod nodes, however i remember having come across some blog where licensed mongod node is recommended for config server?

Please let me know thoughts at the earliest as this is URGENT.

Thanks,
Yash

Hi Yash,

As per: http://www.10gen.com/subscription ("Pricing" tab):

"Only mongod nodes are counted in server licenses. mongos, arbiters, and config servers do not need to be purchased. Each server is limited to 256GB of RAM"

If you are referring to running the "Subscriber Edition" of MongoDB, this would only be required on your config servers if you want to use the SSL or SNMP features.

Cheers,
Stephen
