Schema Design Documentation

Is there a standarized way to document a mongodb schema design.  In the relational world, I believe it would be similar to ER diagram.

I'm not aware of any schema design standards. Could you just use the JSON itself and have descriptive placeholders as the values?

Depending on what you need the doc for, you may be able to use an ORM doc, which contextualises the schema according to the application uses.
