Is there any way to have a slave node that has been started by
pointing out its config with a config file, to force it to reload its
configuration without having to stop the slave node and start it again?

No; what settings do you want to reload?

I was looking for a way to have a larger number of slaves to reload
its configuration from the config file that the slave was started
with, either at a certain point in time or by issuing a command
instead of having to shutdown the slave and starting it up again.

There is no way to do that but some properties can be changed at
runtime. What properties in the config file do you plan to change?

I'd like change http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/reference/configuration-options/#replication.oplogSizeMB .

Hi Ondrej,

As per the documentation you linked, the oplog size parameter has no effect once an oplog has been created.

If you want to resize the oplog capped collection, the process is documented in the manual:
 http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/tutorial/change-oplog-size/

In future please start a new discussion rather than replying to threads from a few years ago. A lot has changed since then ;-).

Regards,
Stephen
