Can I use eval for atomic transactions?

I read that eval is atomic; however, I'm curious as to whether that is
a side effect of the way it is implemented or if eval will always be
atomic, regardless of implementation.

eval is atomic on a single server.
we may make an option where its not atomic, but there will certainly
always be an atomic version.
using eval with sharding is not supported and certainly won't be atomic.
also - there isn't any built in support for rollbacks
