Does a long running map reduce job block the collection it's being run
on?

in 1.4 it yields but isn't as nice as it should be
in 1.5 its much friendlier to other requests

Hi David,

I'm seeing 90+% lock rates when I run my m/r in 1.4.2, though I insert
into a permanent collection in a finalize method, which might extend
the length of the lock. I'm looking forward to 1.6 ;)
