options to make mongoclient.lib smaller

by using "scons mongoclient" with no other options I get a huge file, 124,760 KB.  What options can I use to get a smaller file?

why is there such a big difference in size for Linux?  the libmongoclient.a is only 5,259 KB...

I haven't investigated, but possibilities include the size of debugging information embedded in Windows, or the fact that MSVC uses link-time optimization, so maybe the object files contain extra data.
