One of the key events in the global Mobile Monday calendar are the
Peer Awards, held annually in Barcelona during (but separately from)
Mobile World Congress in February. For background information on last
years awards can be found at
http://edition2009.mobilepeerawards.com/.
Over this years this has been an excellent opportunity for individual
MoMo communities to connect with and have an impact on the worldwide
mobile community.
Due to some political infighting within MoMo globally this year's
awards are going to be called the "Mobile Premier Awards" but are
otherwise unchanged. Details of this years awards can be seen at:
http://www.mobilepremierawards.com/
As a Mobile Monday chapter we can put forward one company as our entry
to the awards. We will run heats to decide which company will
represent us at our next gathering on the evening of Monday 30th
November - more details of that to follow.
If you would like to put your company forward to participate in the
awards please, by Friday 27th November at latest:
1. Ensure that you are happy to travel to Barcelona and represent MoMo
Edinburgh at the awards event on the afternoon of Monday February 15th
- please don't enter unless you are 100% committed to do this. For
avoidance of doubt there are no funds available to support this from
MoMo Edinburgh - though we will certainly assist as far as possible in
seeking other support from other sources and helping work out how to
make the trip as economical as possible!
2. Click on the link on the awards webpage and register your company
in the dotopen system - you need to add sufficient info so that it
will let you publish your profile.
3. Once you have done that, or if you are already on dotopen, click on
the link on the awards webpage again* to go to the premier awards page
on dotopen from where you can click on the participate link top right.
Ensure you tick the innovation award and select Edinburgh as your
local chapter. Tick on any other categories you feel you fall within.
4. Visit the MoMo Edinburgh page on dotopen and double check your
company appears in the list bottom left:
http://www.dotopen.com/organizations/view/mobilemonday-edinburgh
5. Please add a followup to this thread stating you have entered,
which categories you entered for, that you commit to presenting in
Barcelona if successful, and outlining in a maximum of three or four
paragraphs why you think your company provides MoMo Edinburgh's best
chance of success at the awards.
At the awards themselves each company will make a 3 minute
presentation, normally with powerpoint but that isn't a requirement,
followed by fielding 2 minutes of questions from the judges. We will
replicate this formula on the 30th in order to select the company we
put forward.
In early January the competition organizers will review all the
individual chapter entries, and if necessary trim the list down to the
final 20 who will present in Barcelona.
Geoff.
* - they certainly don't win any awards for site design ;->!
