Kraft Foods, The Home Depot & Developers team up to dream up innovative mobile marketing apps
San Francisco, Calif., June 1, 2012 – What happens when big brands, developers and mobile technology collide? The Big Brand Hackathon – a big bang of innovative mobile apps and marketing ideas.
The Big Brand Hackathon – a one-of-a-kind program - puts developers and well-known brands together for two days as partners to turn marketing concepts into code and ideas in apps.
The Big Brand Hackathon recognizes developers as the new creative class in mobile. It’s open to individuals or teams of developers, and startup app development companies.
“Developers have a unique perspective. They understand what mobile technology is capable of doing, and are very imaginative beyond 1’s and 0’s. That’s a powerful combination for brands who want to use mobile and apps in new ways to excite and engage their consumer base,” said Big Brand Hackathon co-producer Sheena Chandok.
Brand powerhouses Kraft Foods and The Home Depot are Platinum brand sponsors of the Big Brand Hackathon and Qualcomm is the Platinum technology sponsor. Other sponsors include: Gold -Nokia Developer; Silver- YP, Telenav, and partners Social-Loco, AnthemWW, BlueRun Ventures, and Mobile {Dev}Sync.
The Big Brand Hackathon is June 16 & 17 at the Madrone Studios in San Francisco. Registration is now open for developers who want to take part and compete for $25K in cash awards and more than $20K in prizes.
Bravo TV will also be filming the hack as part of an upcoming reality show based on Silicon Valley.
“We're looking forward to partnering with developers to create a new, innovative way to engage with our customers," said Trish Mueller, SVP and Chief Marketing Officer, The Home Depot. "This event will complement current Home Depot mobile efforts as we continually look at ways to provide consumers the ability to shop anytime, anywhere."
At the Big Brand Hackathon, participating brands will share their business challenge with developers. Teams and individual developers spend an intensive two-days interacting with brands and coding creative, technology-based solutions that brands can put into the marketplace. Developers will focus on using social and location-based features in their final apps.
"Our goal is to always deeply engage with our consumers. Social and mobile applications are at the center of how consumers are interacting with the world around them and that includes our brands,” said Ed Kaczemarek, Director of Innovation, Consumer Experiences at Kraft Foods. “The hackathon will give us an opportunity to work closely with developers, share ideas, and learn from each other."
The Big Brand Hack is produced by Mobile {Dev}Sync in conjunction with Social-Loco, the premier conference for social, location and mobile technology. Developer finalists selected over the two day hack will have a chance to showcase their app to attendees at the Social-Loco conference.
