first of all say that I love moji, and is maybe the strongest reason
why I can't use IE anymore.

I think moji is perfect to create flashcards of japanese words you
don't know
but after doing a lot of repetitions, and learning a lot how to read
japanese characters I realized that didn't help learn the way to use
words

that's why I think there should be some option to add context to that
word

one way is to get sample sentences for words from a sentence database,
sort of like kanjicafe.com (the icemocha thing) does

the other one is to let the user select the context in which he or she
found the word
how this can be implemented it's an open question, but I think it
would really help students of japanese learn the words and at the same
time how it is used.

meaning and reading is not everything

if you could put that in some future release, you would make me (and
probably many other people) a bit happier :)

thanks for the great job.

Bernat,

thank you for your suggestion. I thought about this for a while and I am
not sure whether this should/could be part of moji or something
separate. The dictionaries we use don't provide you with useful
contextual sentences. I think this would require to plug into an
external resource. Currently, I think the best approach would be to
create/use a service on the web to which you can submit the exported
vocabulary lists from moji. The service could then create the flash
cards including order of strokes, combinations of the kanji, etc., etc.,
etc. Doing this in moji would require to install a couple of more
dictionaries/databases and quite a little computing power.

The dictionary search in moji works fine on the simple line-based text
format of edict/kanjidic. Contextual information, however, is more
complicated as, for instance, some kanji appears after another (which
you can not find easily at the moment) or in specific set phrases.

Anyway, I don't want to put your hopes too high at this time. I am not
sure whether this can or should be implemented inside of the moji plugin
or somewhere else. I have created an enhancement bug in moji bugzilla at

https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=18659

with your original text and this response to archive this suggestion. If
you like you may add your e-mail address as cc to the bug above to get
updates in case something is happening in this regards.

Thank you for your feedback!

Regards,

Gerald
