Among the hundreds of concerned parents and children congregating
beside Trim Castle last Friday to protest at EirGird`s planned
construction of an over-ground pylon network through Meath was Maeve
Lally from Kilmessan. TRANSPORT Minister Noel Dempsey`s suggestion
that landowners might be prepared to forfeit compensation if EirGrid
decided to underground its proposed power cables has been described as
"mischievous and misleading" by the North-East Pylon Pressure (NEPP)
campaign.
Mr Dempsey had suggested that the cost of under-grounding the wires
would be substantially reduced if property owners were to agree to
allow EirGrid access to their lands without seeking large sums in
compensation.
