Brain tumor victims on cell phone safety:

Are the numbers on the rise?

Yes. From 1980 to 2000, there was an increase of nearly 50% in the estimated number of new cases of Malignant Brain/Central Nervous System tumors in the United States. (2)

It has not been conclusively determined what environmental factors have directly affected this rate increase, but the aging population and better diagnosis techniques have definitely impacted these numbers.

Brain Tumor: Differences in Statistics

Statistics regarding brain tumors are likely to differ. According to the A Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States, some organizations only record data on cancerous tumors, whereas others also include non-cancerous tumors in their calculations. Statistics will also vary depending on the time frame; for example, some data may reflect only a single year rather than a range of years.

In 2008, the American Cancer Society reported a significant decrease in the number of cancer deaths from brain and central nervous system tumors over the last 13 years. Deaths due to malignant brain tumors decreased 14.36% between 1991 and 2004.
