Hi Everyone,

I'm curious to get feedback from those who attended on how you thought the last meeting ( or any previous MTC meetings) went? You can share it with the group here if you think it's appropriate or send me an email off-list directly.

I'll be planning another demo event next spring and would like to figure out what people thought worked and what didn't work. Our camera unfortunately had some issues (reversed images) and we will get some of the other technical issues squared away next time, but in general I'm wondering how people thought the flow of the meeting went?

Should we have a hard cap (think stopwatch) on time for presenters?
Were there too many demos? too few?
Should we focus on just demos of just one platform?
Are the demos too technical? not technical enough?
Was the not enough time?
Should we have more time for networking? less time?
Other ideas?

Any other feedback you can provide, either on this last or any previous MobileTC meeting would be much appreciated. We are always looking to improve our monthly meetings.

Thanks!
Justin

I think it went really well.  The short presentations are nice because you get a variety of content.

Should we have a hard cap (think stopwatch) on time for presenters?

It would be fair to do some kind of timing display.  At least have something subtle so that the presenter is aware that they are over limit, even if the audience doesn't see it (yellow light facing them?).  This way, you can still be flexible on time if the conversation is good.  Then, you could manually trigger the red light when it's time to move on.  I've seen some groups do the ticking stopwatch, and it usually seems a bit off.

Were there too many demos? too few?

It was about the right number.  I wouldn't want much less.

Should we focus on just demos of just one platform?

Variety is good.

Are the demos too technical? not technical enough?

About right.  It should probably be a bit of a mix of business, tech, and just using the app.  The audience questions will likely help to steer this to match the crowd.  If you want to ensure it's not all engineering, you might occasionally want to toss in a non-tech question yourself, which might inspire others to step up with questions.

The webcam of the device's screen was kinda raw, but in a good way.  It does the job, and has an unpolished demo-scene feel to it.  I like it.

One technical note: The current webcam gets blurry due to depth-of-field, and it seems that some people struggle to position it.    You might want to consider a webcam that uses more of a pinhole-camera or high F-stop on the lens.  Or, maybe have a marking or cradle on the desk at the right distance (maybe you already do that..).

Also, if you could configure the laptop to show them the video output, then they wouldn't have to turn their head to see how it looks on the big screen.

Overall, I thought it was excellent.

Jeremy

Thank you everyone for the excellent feedback and comments. I'll be assembling all of them next week and look forward to implementing them in upcoming meetings. If you still have other ideas, please feel free to send them directly to me or post it on the group.
Thanks!
Justin
