Hi folks,
I have also put together a touch-enabled modified Mobile Trail
Explorer build.
Because I use it when jogging I have added a stopwatch that gives me a
speed indication after each kilometer by announcing the pace.
Ich have set up a little website with an online demo of this build.
Please have a look at http://lafing.bplaced.net/ and play along with
the demo.
I know that my build has lost some of the functionality of the
original application but it fits my needs for the usage as a running
companion.
To be useful e.g. when mapping for Openstreetmap some additions have
to be made.
As I can see from Patricks post yesterday there are many more people
than me alone interested in a touch enabled variant of the Mobile
Trail Explorer application.
Please give feedback on this build and whether the online demo is
working for you at all.

And I would of course like to share my patches and additions with all
users.

Regards,
Lars

Just wow! The map view looks fantastic with those transparent touchscreen icons. I'd definitely like too some of those features in the main version. Maybe we could activate the buttons as soon as user presses the screen the first time. I also really like the top panel that drops down when clicked. Maybe that could be semi-transparent the same way as the bottom panel background.

Best Regards,
Tommi L.

Hi Tommi,

nice to hear that the online demo worked and that you liked it.
Your are right with your statement that the top panel should be semi-
transparent like all other elements and it actually is on the real
device.
If the device (like my Nokia 5800XM does) supports Nokia UI extensions
it is drawn semi transparent. The microemulator for the online demo
does not support transparency.
All other UI elements are png bitmaps, so the look the same whether in
the emulator or on the real device.
I have just added some scrennshots at http://lafing.bplaced.net/ to
illustrate this. It also helps to get an impression about the look if
the online demo is not working.
Now the bigger problem is probably how my additions can become a part
of the standard application.
I made so many small changes and additions on the way that I will
probably have difficulties to cut them into nice to handle small
patches.

Regards
Lars

Superb - I've just downloaded this to my 5800 and it seems to work
nicely.

What are your plans on getting this back into the main source tree?
I'd love to try to play around with the code inside NetBeans

Thanks for all the effort on this :)
