Job posting here or on separate list?

It has been suggested that perhaps we should create a separate list just for those who are interested in job and or project postings and leave this list for conversations about mobile. I wanted to get your feedback on this idea.

FWIW, we moderate messages sent to the list and try to make sure that postings are related to jobs in Oregon or Southern Washington and have a mobile component. Occasionally things get through that moderation process on accident[1], but we try to keep the list low on noise and volume.

What do you think? Too many job postings? Would a separate list make sense? Or are there enough lists as it is?

Thanks,

Jason

[1] My muscle memory for email key commands can be a tad aggressive. A couple of times I’ve accidentally approved a message for the list when my fingers replied to the moderation request before my brain caught up reading what the email was about. Sorry about that. :-(

If not for job postings what else would be in this list besides meeting announcements? Does anything actually get discussed here?

I would like to see actual substantive discussions between meetings. Jobs and meeting announcements don't need to be separate as far as I'm concerned.

I don't mind the postings. I find they give excellent visibility on which companies are new, growing, partnering, what they're currently working on, etc.

I think the total email volume is just fine as it is, so don't see a reason to split the lists at this time. Maybe if it starts to get cumbersome....

Agreed on both accounts.

Any community requires every member to contribute something for it to thrive. If it helps the mobile community in portland have a better sense of connection and understand what one another are doing, I think scanning an email or three every few days is a reasonable thing to ask of everyone.

I think they're fine currently. I'm curious as to who's doing mobile in Portland and don't find it takes away from the list.

The majority of the feedback was to keep the list as it is which is great. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
