RE: {Mobile Portland} Windows 8 App Factor Hackathon, presented by Microsoft. Friday, June 7

Below are my thoughts on why you should attend this hackathon:

I realize most of you are waiting to build Windows Store Apps until after there are a sufficient number of devices out there to justify your efforts. Especially when you consider the existing opportunities with iOS and Android (both Google Play and Amazon). I can't say that I blame you. However, this is a great opportunity to get into the Store early. Regardless of what any of us believe, the next version of Windows 8 "Blue" will be selling lots of devices later this year. It does take a little to ramp up with the new Windows 8 design paradigm. Now is a great time to start, especially considering that the BUILD conference is only a month away (when the details and changes with "Blue" will be released).

Pacific technology is putting on an event tomorrow with Rep. Walden focused on Portland’s mobile community. I know this is short notice, but I didn’t realize the event was an open event until today.

If you have the time to attend, this would be a good chance to represent Portland’s mobile interests. Rep. Walden is the Chairman of House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology. That subcommittee deals with many telecommunications and mobile related issues.
