All,

If you've been reading this list long enough, you'll know that there have been lots of requests for better documentation of how to use Mobile Couchbase in your apps.

I've been thinking that I'd set aside the time to dig through the Xcode Workspace and see exactly how our Demo.app is linked up. Once I have that all bootstrapped in my brain I could write up instructions for how to link up a new app. But I've given up on having the uninterrupted block of time it would require for me to do this. I know many of you are comfortable with Xcode builds. Some of you may have done this before for your own apps.

Couchbase is willing to pay a reasonable rate to anyone who can help us with this. We don't need you to write beautiful docs suitable for publishing (we have a professional docs team). Basically we need you to write bare-bones docs that myself and our docs team can use to create screencasts, professional docs, and other materials from.

Basically, the level of quality you see here (but this is for Xcode 3, and the not-quite-from-source build that we had) is what we need: https://github.com/couchbaselabs/iOS-Couchbase/blob/master/doc/using_mobile_couchbase.md

Ideally you can do the work this week or weekend, so that our docs team can pick it up next week. Part of delivering the docs would be a quick skype or phone call with me where you walk me through them to make sure I can pick it up from you.

In the long term, Couchbase is hiring mobile developers, so this would also be a good way to get to know us early, if that excites you.

If you are interested please email jch...@couchbase.com

If you are the type of person who was just gonna write these steps up anyway, please don't let me stop you!

Cheers,
Chris

I am consistently amazed by the open source community we have here. Thanks everyone who replied.

There are some good docs efforts out there, and I was able to work through them and get a new app working in Xcode.

Here are the docs, thanks to Marty Schoch, which I cleaned up a little. Hopefully this will get you started if you have been waiting for docs:

This is not the final documentation as I picture it, but it gets the job done so we can continue hacking. I for one am gonna write an app now!

If you are interested in building for iPad, here are some instructions which might make a good supplement to the above:

Did anyone else get this message while performing the "git submodule update" step?

Cloning into Demo/Vendor/TouchJSON...
Permission denied (publickey).
fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

No. But there are a mixture of URL formats in .gitmodules - that should probably be santized:

That totally makes sense that it would happen if you don't have a github account configured. I have fixed it. Also, these instructions will work on the Beta download from the project downloads page, which already has the submodules resolved.
