We are happy to announce the release of Mobicents Media Server (MMS) v2.0.0.CR3

There are couple of new feature added as well as performance improvements

  1. The issue with MBROLA TTS fixed and by default 3 voices are available. For details look at http://code.google.com/p/mobicents/issues/detail?id=1476
  2. New mixers are added for Conference Endpoint http://code.google.com/p/mobicents/issues/detail?id=1599
  3. Connection can now be audited to know the statistics at real-time. Details at http://code.google.com/p/mobicents/issues/detail?id=1598
  4. For more details look at  http://code.google.com/p/mobicents/issues/list?cursor=1604&q=label%3AComponent-Media-Server%20label%3ARelease-Type-Candidate-3%20label%3AVersion-2.0.00&updated=1604&ts=1280517894&can=1
  5. The majority of effort was to integrate the SS7 lower layers MTP2/MTP3 on MMS side such that MMS can be used as Media Gateway once B Channel Endpoint is done. For SS7 related announcement look at http://groups.google.com/group/mobicents-public/browse_thread/thread/e9d5a29020612e1c

The MMS 2.x.y can be controlled using MGCP Protocol

To understand how to use JSR-309 Impl with Sip Servlet look at JSR 309 Demo example available with latest Mobicents Sip Servlets Server release.

To understand how to use Mobicents Media Server with JAIN SLEE Server look at mgcp-demo, echo and packet-relay-demo examples.

Congrats.

But, what about the problem with some softphones that do not recognize
DTMF digits? Did you do some progress?

I'm trying to run jsr309 as http://www.mobicents.org/mss-jsr309-demo.html
But I can't configure the server.xml to add
darConfigurationFileLocation - it didn't work.

Attempt 1: add darConfigurationFileLocation to current Service element

<Service name="jboss.web">
----snip----
<darConfigurationFileLocation>
conf/dars/media-jsr309-dar.properties
</darConfigurationFileLocation>
</Service>

Attempt 2: add one new Service element (while keeping jboss.web)
<Service name="Sip-Servlets"
className="org.mobicents.servlet.sip.startup.SipStandardService"

sipApplicationDispatcherClassName="org.mobicents.servlet.sip.core.SipApplicationDispatcherImpl"
darConfigurationFileLocation="file:///usr/src/jboss-5.1.0.GA/server/
default/conf/media-jsr309-dar.properties" />

Both lead the web console didn't load.

I'm using the binary JAIN-SLEE with MGCPRA, SIP11RA, media-jsr309-
servlet-1.7.1.war, mms-standalone.

Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you!

darConfigurationFileLocation is an attribute, not a nested tag.

<Service darConfigurationFileLocation=".." ...></Service>

Are you trying to use JSR 309 in a SLEE application?

Yes, I'm intending to develop an app like a MGC (Media gateway
controller)

There is a JSR 309 Resource Adaptor in the SLEE development roadmap
yet so far the MMS team has always delayed development of such
component since MGCP fits better and our JSR 309 is made on top of
MGCP. Can you share your vision why we should rethink this and start
development of the JSR 309 RA?

JSR309 is mostly Synchronous (though API's are also exposed to be async). While MGCP is async. In JSR309, artificial Semaphores are added to make it look sync (on top of MGCP which is async) and if we make JSR309 RA it will again make it async. Whats the point of so many layers?

IMO, MGCP RA is perfect fit for JSLEE to use Media Server while JSR309 is perfect fit for Sip Servlets.

If JSR 309 is also async why not use that in the RA?

IMHO its very simple, why add layering?

To be able to code against one standard API and not care about the
underlying protocol (ie allow switching to other protocols by
configuration to control other kind of media servers not supporting
MGCP by example) ?

Hi Eduardo,
I read quite a lot of Mobicents team's doc, and I knew that MGCP, SIP
stack and event ISUP is almost done now. That's why I'm thinking about
Mobicent MGC.

Currently, I don't know what is the best approach to develop MGC, so
I'm just learning the ways you do with MGCP and SIP together.
From the point of view, which is the best way to dev MGC?

What is the difference between SIP and MGCP from application point of view? Why for SIP dev underlying protocol is used and APi for others?

Sip Servlets tries to reduce it as much as possible so that the app
developper can focus on its business logic.
New emerging convergence frameworks on top of it try to reduce even
more so that you barely know you deal with SIP
