We are happy to announce the first version 1.0.0.BETA1 of Mobicents RTSP stack. Mobicents RTSP which is built on top of Netty 3.0.1.GA uses the NIO Socket (TCP). The stack doesn't have any state machine and is neutral to be used either at RTSP Client side or RTSP Server side. The main purpose to have RTSP Stack is to provide RTSP Support for Mobicents Media Server.

As of now only TCP is supported.

Binary (including src) is available at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mobicents/files/Mobicents%20RTSP/

SVN tag
http://mobicents.googlecode.com/svn/tags/servers/media/2.x.y/rtsp/mobicents-rtsp-1.0.0.BETA1

Look at example code

For Client Side
http://mobicents.googlecode.com/svn/tags/servers/media/2.x.y/rtsp/mobicents-rtsp-1.0.0.BETA1/src/main/java/org/mobicents/rtsp/example/Client.java

For Server Side
http://mobicents.googlecode.com/svn/tags/servers/media/2.x.y/rtsp/mobicents-rtsp-1.0.0.BETA1/src/main/java/org/mobicents/rtsp/example/Server.java

These are just for understanding on how to initialize the stack.

Enjoy the RTSP :)

Mobicents Media Server Team.

Nice ! Congrats !
I wonder how easily it can be ported to android to make a full blown SIP UA on google phones... will try to report back if I find some time to do it at nights

Yes, probably all 3g phones have RTSP for video streaming. It is part
of the spec for 3g or something afaik.

Congrats, team!

What kind of demo is in the works to show this feature off? Web page with movies that someone can click on from a browser and watch?

We recently used the converged demo example in the MMS to show off a kind of video shop for users. So essentially, where the example tries to sell furniture, we replaced with thumbnails of popular movies. We added a button to each movie description page that made a call to the logged in user when clicked, that upon answering, would return the RTSP address of the trailer for the movie which was located on a Darwin media server and the user could begin watching. We deployed it over the IMS testbed using UCT IMS Client. If the user was interested in the movie, they would then proceed to order it etc;

We were forced to use Darwin due to lack of RTSP support in the current MMS but are looking forward to staying in the Mobicents environment in this regard.

Awesome,

Mos

When you move everything to Mobicents, do you think you could contribute it back ?
(That would be awesome)

Hi all,

In our quest for awesomeness and in response to Jean's challenge, we have put together and hosted our code for all to check out. It's the beginnings of an online video shop using SEAM which is extended from the converged demo. You can acess the code from http://hezekiah.rucus.net/converged-movie-demo. It includes:

- JBOSS 4.2.3.GA with preloaded binaries
- Modified converegd demo sources
- vlc configuration file
- vlc startup script for running as media server

The system is extremely bleeding edge, but hopefully can be used to arouse interest in evolving the current converged demo into a video system that supports video streaming to clients. The software was tested mainly in the Fokus Open Source IMS environment with UCT IMS Client, mainly due to UCTs RTSP (using gstreamer) and RE-INVITE (to re-negotiate the session to obtain the RTSP address of a movie trailer) abilities. We would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the system, and hope to update and release regularly if people are keen.

Cool,

Mos

Definitely will do! The effort does have traction and we are looking at a demo in Cape Town South Africa for our department sponsors next month.
