Hi All
I would like to invite everyone to get involved and give us feedback
regarding requierements for MMS Console.
Some basic ideas about console are already there.

We are still discussing details about technology (JOPR, Swing) etc,
but we fill that community could be of value to our internal strugle
to get another baby out from MMS team.

So, wiki can be found here: http://groups.google.com/group/mobicents-public/web/mms-2-x-console
If anyone feels that we missed something please, point out.

Which web framework will you use for the console?

Its still open question. We did not limit choice to web only. So far we have three choices:
 - JOPR/JON as other projects do, 2/3 of team vote in favor of this
 - Swing
 - Seam

IMHO Seam would be a better choice :)

Swing provides more advanced interface but this is not most significant fact. Media Server 2.x can exist as standalone server so Management console should not depend from AS/Web in my mind.

Well JOPR allows you to monitor other resources than AS. We typically have a JOPR plugin for the SIP Load Balancer which is not AS Based

Right, but AS is required to run console

Usually  some tool is required to run console :) be that applet viewer/as or whatever. With web based console we have single point to refer, which can be accessed the same way from any location.

it has to be deployed before anyone can access it

Swing must be started before anyone can use it.... Decision which to use should not be made based on how console is started, except if there is clearly defined requierement.

Can we use JSF/Richfaces? I dont think it will run on standalone MMS though.

IMO, JON is the way to go.

1) It gives remote access to any one from any where. Yes AS needs to be started, but why is that a concern?
2) Standard that Moicents Platform will follow

Swing will require individual set-up at machines from where you want to control.

I agree Jopr is the way to go if we want a consistent look and feel for operations and management.

Moreover it can handle clusters, which you'll loose a lot of time to handle if you go another way.
Management is a real business on its own and I think it's better we reuse what have been built internally (Jopr) than trying to reinvent the wheel and loose a lot of time

One point that should be brought forward is this tool will be used to get the current configuration of MMS (remember all those *-beans.xml?)
And also the resources used by MMS Endpoints like AudioPlayer, Recorder etc and tool UI will also expose way where user can create custom endpoint with different resources and custom media path.

May be something like drag-n-drop.

Not sure how good we can achieve this if we use JOPR? Applet?

Ask the JOPR team :-)

I would vote for JOPR too to be consistent with JBoss products. JOPR is the defacto standard for managing JBoss runtimes. Not sure if its a criteria for this project but it would be nice to have this integrated with JOPR.
