Are you sure you installed latex correctly? If you open a command
prompt, and type 'latex', does latex start?

Also note that there is a bug that sometimes images don't show up on the
first card you show when starting Mnemosyne, perhaps this is the issue here.

I cannot reproduce this. I you're running Linux, then you can look at
the console to see if there are any messages.
