It's not the people of this country doing this, they are not even asked
if they agree with it. It's our presidents, former and present, and the
Catholic church.
Our presidents have been allowing refugees to settle here for years,
even the ones that hate us, because they think it makes them look good
to the rest of the world. It has no effect on them or their families,
they don't have to live next door to the refugees, or compete with them
for jobs.
I'm just disgusted, there is nothing the common person can do about it,
we can't vote them out, because they all do the same thing.

I'd feel a lot better about legal immigrants if they made a better attempt
at integrating into American society. Many of them live close to each
other in the USA and tend to go about their lives much the same as in
their old country.
The USA has no official language, but the vast majority of us speak
english as our primary language so why can't immigrants speak english? I
don't know why it bothers me when others speak Hmong, Spanish, and other
languages, but it does.
I'm sure Americans are no better at integrating into other countries if
they move there, but I suspect there are many more coming in than leaving.

I don't think the Hmong ought to be grouped in with the
Somalis. For one thing the Hmong aren't adherents of a
creed that preaches it's supremacy over all others and
explicitly calls for violence to achieve that end.
T'other thing is the Hmong are where they are because they
were our allies in another war.

I dare say they have their problems and given they moved from
dwelling in the mountains of SE Asia to urban America I suppose
thats to be expected.
The first generation were utterly bewildered by what they saw around
them and the came to depend on their ofspring as an interface to the
surrounding culture. This in itself had some bad effects on their
society. There was also IIRC a period where the mortality rate among
the young male Hmong population soared for reasons that I've never
heard an explanation for. Almost like lethal culture shock. As time
goes on they will assimilate though. The same cannot necessarily be
said for the Somalis.

That's a 2-3 generation change. It always has been -- the Irish, the
Scots, the Italians, the Eastern European Jews -- all nice white folks
who came here, hung about in their own communities and only in the
third generation spread out as they intermarried with other groups.
No immigrant group was able to integrate into Murken society within
the first generation or even the second. It was always the third
where the major integration started to take place.
Expecting the Hmong and Somalis to be an different is nonsense.

compete for refugees by the head and seem to only have any
accountablility to the US State Department if they screw up in some
way. If one should screw up, another competing agency is ready to
step in and take over the territory.
It has been our view all along that each refugee family should be
sponsored by a church or civic group, for example, which is what this
article implies, but it is not done that way.

80,000 that we know of, others have come illegally and of course they
have families with 5-6 kids or more."
