No, nobody wants to listen to Donahue. Big difference.
I'm a liberal, and I can't stand Donahue. He's as bad as Ann
Coulter or the various radical conservative talk radio vultures
cashing in on the idiots out there in the unwashed masses.
Donahue won't be missed by conservatives and liberals
alike.

There you go thinking aloud again, and you know that's only going
to get you into trouble. Everybody already knows what a hate-filled
little man you are...but thanks for continually reminding us every now
and then.
Just out of curiousity, and no, I won't miss Donahue as I don't watch TV, I
will watch films and Discovery Channel and that's about it, but what channel
around here carries Rush?
Also, just out of curiosity, what communist country is sponsoring
protesters in the U.S.? China? N. Korea?, Cuba?... At last count, well,
there really wasn't that many communist country's left that could afford
to make some contributions as they can barely feed and keep themselves
together, except for China of course, but I swear that as I have been over in
that part of the world working, I've yet to see anyone around here that I
recognize. Can't say I've ever heard of ANSWER, or how they are tied to
some last remaining communist country.. Please answer, curious minds
need to know!! I have had phone solicitors from the Mpls. Police Chiefs
Assoc. and I give them a few bucks, even though they oddly share the
same area code and mailing address delievery code as the MN Clean
Water Folks, whom I also give a few bucks to as well as I figure they
can't possibly be trying to raise communist fish.. I know they have Red
Salmon out in Wa. and B.C. Canada, but I never considered them as
commies.

Actually this could backfire, liberals can now say we did'nt watch nor follow
our village idiot, so when are you rightwingers going to give up on your two
village idiots Ann and Rush.
I'm not even going to go into Teletubing bashing and Divine storm intervention.
Ok, but I'll cede the killer rabbit.
This is just Dave "Airkings" we're talking about here. He usually spews
silly (and often hateful) things with little thought put into them.
Asking him to explain himself usually just opens it up for more of
his thoughtless and unusual ranting, with very little difference in
the end result when all is said and done.
>Who's Donahue anyway?
Exactly.
When I first heard MSNBC was giving him a new show, my
initial reaction was "why?".
Is he some ex-actor like Jesse or something?

He's an ex-daytime TV talk show host from the 70's.
Sort of like the 70's equivalent of the Jerry Springer
show (except without the constant staged fighting of
Springer). He would often book guests that were
guaranteed to inflame and enrage the audience,
such as David Duke (grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan)
and Frank Collins (head of the American Nazi Party), etc.
and stage sensationalistic debates in front of a rabid
live audience. He appealed mainly to a female
audience, probably due to his daytime TV time slot.
Obviously, his shtick didn't work for MSNBC during
their prime time slot at night, which really comes as
no surprise to me. Most "Volvo driving soccer moms"
were probably already in bed by the time he aired at
night. ;)
In short, he is a "shock-jock" type of social and political
opportunist (albeit from the liberal side of the partisan fence),
much like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, etc.
I didn't miss him the first time he went away, and I won't
miss him this time either. I just hope he stays gone now.
I hope you were being facetious. Otherwise, to ask that question
would indicate you were very young. Donahue, love him or hate
him (I would be in the latter group) was a broadcasting pioneer
like Chuck Barris. He revolutionized the daytime talk show from
friendly chit chats with celebrities mixed with cooking segments
to the audience interactive wild west show of today. Without
Donahue, there's no Geraldo, Maury Povitz, Jerry Springer or
Oprah (so, if you have a time machine, you know who to go back
and kill). Just like without Barris lowering the bar with the
Gong show there's no American Idol or Star Search (again, head
for your time machine - but, beware, Barris may shoot back).
For Donahue, however, it was soon obvious that you can't go home
again.

I wasn't being facetious, nor am I very young.

This may be true, Donahue may have "pioneered" (if you want to
call it that) some of the television genre's we see today. However,
I think he overstayed his welcome back then, and trying to revive
him today was a complete mistake. Especially somewhere like
the sputtering MSNBC network.
>For Donahue, however, it was soon obvious that you can't go home
>again.
Indeed. Let's just hope he stays in retirement this time.
Oh, PHIL Donahue. Ok. Didn't know he was "gone" or that he'd "come
back" either.
>Ummmm....it's not just in Minnesota that there is no Donahue.
Look at it this way...MSNBC loses a Donahue, but
gains a Ventura. :-/
Who's in charge of programming there? Morten Downey, Jr.?
Alas, Mr. Downey's 6 packs of smokes a day did him in some time ago.
Chuck Barris (who has somehow endured a 6 gram a day habit) may have
replaced him. I'm pretty sure P.T. Barnum is gone too- possibly from
a 6 trapeze girl habit.
So, he's just one of these folks that typically enjoy making a fool of
themselves in newgroups, with no real intent to follow up his embarrassing
rantings with anything even close to the truth. Oh well, curious minds just
lurking about wanting to know what the local brain trust is all about.
Thanks!
Doug

Trying to lump Donahue into some type of "shock-jock" label
has got to be one of the funnier things that I have read in here
for quite a while. I think back then about the most radical
discussions that were held on his show would be things along
the line of should contraception be tought in public schools,
hardly in the same ill-formed gene pool as Springer, Downey,
et al. I actually worked a couple of special west coast tapings
held at NBC Burbank during his heyday, the audience was mainly
wealthy Bel Air matrons and others that had connections in
"The Biz" that could manage to get the limited amount of tickets,
hardly the same kind of white trash, and other racist hooligans
that you'd find on today's "talk show". I'n not defending Donahue,
I found him fairly boring, and if anything, probably a little too
feminist and/or female oriented topic for his shows, I don't think
there were really too many men in his audience while he was in
LA except for the camera op's and other crew. If anything, his
style of show was not that much of a leap of say a combination
of the Mike Douglas show, with a bit of the Galloping Gourmet
and heaven forbid, he probably did have David Duke on as at that
time he was actually running for public office and was a topical
news item open for discussion. But I would safely say that I doubt
that a chair was ever tossed or a breast was ever shown except in
relation to explaining how to do a self examination during one of
his shows. Boring and stale compared to todays "talk shows",
a resounding YES, but radical and comparable to a "shock-jock",
far from reality. I don't know what his latest incarnation was like,
but seeing that he's now in his 70's (born in the early 30's), I
doubt that he's exactly been a "ball of fire"..
Doug (and my $.0003)
Hahahaha! If whitebread Donahue's a shock jock, Ruth Kozlak's a fan dancer!
Who even knew the guy was back on. Who watches MSNBC during evening prime
time. What kind of weenie ever though that guy had an impact on public
opinion. Doesn't a rhetorical question need a question mark.
>I typically ignore Smith's personal attacks.
That's probably the smartest thing you could do.
Was Ruthy on Phil's show as a "sidekick" or something?
OK, who's Ann?

Actually, I hadn't thought it about it that way...but that's a
good point. When *will* they give up on those two hate-filled
windbags?

Ask hardened left wingers the following question. At night you are walking
down a street that is dark, and 3 suspicious looking youths are walking
towards you. They all look suspicious and you happen to have a cell phone
with which can make one call. Do they call the cops or the ACLU?
she's better looking then Ruth Gaither ginsburg, janet reno, or Hillary....
not to mention smarter as wel.
Any how I read her book slander I thought it was humorous but to the point.
