Just to remind everyone that November's MMUG is very kindly being hosted at
the AppleStore Touchwood (Solihull).
Thursday 12th November
Time - 6:45pm for a 7:00pm start (might be a good idea to get yourselves a
drink from the nearby coffee shops first)

Rather pleased with the bundle: I'd been trying Twitterific's ad-
supported one and was very unsure about going for the full version.

Excellent, thanks for the tipoff.

I've just rushed over to it, done my business and it's been waiting
there on "still generating serials". Is that what you had or have I
secretly frozen Safari?

Why is it scary? It doesn't propagate automatically like a virus, it's
just a game with strangely real consequences. It's a trojan so just
don't install & run everything you find. Anyone can write a simple
application that would wipe out a users home folder, how is this any
different?

I've hesitated to pitch in on this, at the risk of sounding like a fan-boy, and these stories are often designed to make reasonable arguments sound that way. Nonetheless, I think it's worth thinking about this outside of the usual "big bad Apple getting away with murder because of obsessive customers" angle.

I know power supplies are very clever these days but they often seem
to have very little safety factor built in. I have just had my LacCie
PSU replaced, under warranty, but it took three weeks.

Am I right in thinking this problem only affects the Apple Time
Capsule? I just use an ordinary external hard drive, and run Time
Machine directly into that. As it has its own power source, I presume
it's not an issue?

As a new Time Capsule owner, this was a bit of a concern to me, but to be
honest, you shouldn't be relying solely on any one device for backup. The
Time Capsule does offer an Archive feature, allowing you to clone the
internal drive's contents to a USB drive attached, which you can then use
for off-site storage.
