Hi Everyone,

Just to let you know, it looks like everything is lined up to launch
the Space Shuttle Discovery today - and very fitting on the 4th of
July, eh? I'm glad it's called "Discovery" after the ship that
Charles Darwin's great voyage of Discovery.

If the space shuttle was in Wolverhampton now, I don't think it would
be launching. Looks like we're about to have what my dad used to call
a "gully washer".

Hannah, our woman in mission control, has been kindly doing personal
updates via the site, and will hopefully keep us informed via her
blog on the site:

http://www.siliconmeadow.net/hannah-mission-controller

and

All the best to the shuttle team!

Cheers,

Richard

You're right, Christopher. As residents of Shropshire and ten miles
from Shrewsbury (Darwin's home town) we have had the opportunity to
learn more about the great man. 1831 - 1836 were, I think, the dates
covering his voyage around South America and the Galapagos - in the
Beagle.

Wasn't Discovery one of the ships in Captain Cook's trips to
Australasia?

Whatever... a great experience for Hannah...

Sorry. My fault. For some reason I got the two mixed up. I did have
my doubts and did a bit of research and sorta screwed up and in the
excitement of the launch I didn't edit it properly.

Sorry.

I don't know. Beagle one was pretty successful.

Sending dogs into space is a fantastic idea! Let's send more at once -
round up all the Jack Russells and send them out of our orbit...

Not sure what scientific value this idea has, but it would cheer me up.

I can see the appeal, but I'd rather start with ferrets and people
that have them as pets.

Dear Friends and Family,

I met Katriona Godward on the Emotion Eric forum (http://
www.emotioneric.com) some years ago, and although the forum no longer
exists, we managed to stay in touch. She often said that she'd like
me to build a web site to sell her art, but the timing was always wrong.

Until now.

If you go to:

http://www.katrionagodward.co.uk

you'll see some fantastic abstract and portrait art in different
mediums. I particularly like the "impasto" abstract paintings she does.

She's got two special offers at the moment. The first is a "buy one,
get one" free offer, which is only available to the first purchaser
on the new site, and the second is an "Ultra Modern Commission Canvas
Portrait"

http://www.siliconmeadow.net/ultra-modern-commission-canvas-portrait

At £100, it's insanely good value (you'll be able to find out the
equivalent in your local currency when you check out - or go to
http://www.xe.com). I'm this offer won't be available for long!

Katriona takes payment via most major credit cards and ships
worldwide all in the price.

Cheers,

Richard

P.S. Please feel free to forward this on to any friends you think may
be interested.

Here is my partners website, who also happens to be an artist, which
I did in HTML.

I perhaps need to pull my finger out and update it.

She does take commissions also.

Dear Friends and Family,

Back on the 17th of July, I sent an email to you about the launch of
Katriona Godward's site. In the process of putting the site together,
I chose a theme for the site which I thought looked really stunning,
and I initially tested out the site (with very little content) in all
the major browsers.

Typical of me being a snobbish Mac user, I didn't continue to examine
the site in IE for PC as more content was added. Many of you noticed
that the images didn't appear, or that to get to the thumbnail images
of her art, you had to scroll to the right quite a distance.

As a result, I have swapped the existing theme with one more friendly
to IE users.

Being a site completely reliant on visual enjoyment, the initial
launch didn't quite do it for a vast majority of you, and I request
you have another look around at the amazing quality of Kat's
artistry. These original works of art are very affordable at the
moment, and I'm sure will be gaining in value faster than the rate of
inflation. She's building quite a community with her "Tummy Shout
Outs" (http://www.katrionagodward.co.uk/tummy-shout-outs), and she's
also working on different competitions. For example, if you go to:

http://www.katrionagodward.co.uk/august06-competition

all you need to do to enter is explain why you think you deserve to
have this wonderful miniature painting. To do so, sign up to the site
and then click on "add new comment" link. The photo of painting
really shows the three-dimensional aspect of her "impasto"
techniques, which she stretches even further by embedding other
materials into the paint. Stunning!

Go on. Have a look. You know you want to.
