We had a great meeting last night. Peter from Colur Confidence
www.colourconfidence.com gave a great presentation from what colour is
all about through to how we display and manage it. He also covered the
best settings for Photoshop and other software and talked about
different calibration tools, finishing off with a demo of the
ColorMunki http://www.colormunki.com/

It's a shame numbers were low, I guess this is because of the summer
hols, are there other reasons people didn't come last night? Was the
topic not fit for purpose, did people get lost on the way? It would be
good to know, as I might consider suggesting we don't do an August
meeting in the future, or at least not one with a guest speaker.

Next meeting is 23rd September (was 16th) and is a MacBasics session.
This is a great meeting for those new to the Mac where we look at the
basics, where things are, what they do and how to fix them when they
break.

Cheers
B.

I really wanted to make it to last night's meeting but had some
relatives turn up short notice. Did you record it? :-)

Any chance Peter could do another session in the future?

I think last nights talk was great although the subject may not have
evoked too much interest at first sight.
As we are all, one way or another, involved with colour, the opening
part of the talk was a welcome refresher, or implanter, of basic
colour knowledge and very useful, as well as interesting.
The demos were done with all the professionalism of a consummate
salesman, who, incidentally, must be a serious contender
for`MAOAD' (most apps on a dock) award.
Thanks Ben.

Graham,

PS Apologies for next meeting as shall be on holiday.

A very useful meeting I thought. It's given me a lot to think about,
and made me realize that I'm certainly not getting the best out of my
workflow. I was quite tempted by the colormunki, but £350 might be a
tad much for my purposes.

I would be interested to hear people's views on A3 printers. Reviews
indicate the Epson 2400 is a decent unit.

Had I not been tied up with parenting last night then this would have
been the first meeting I've attended in ages (the Tuesday thing never
seems to work for me these days). I'm trying to sort out my own colour
workflow for photography, having struggled with images being shot in
hong kong, transferred to me here for preparation and then exhibited
on inconsistent and downright dodgy displays at an exhibition. Slowly
getting there.

If there are any more meets on similar topics then I hope I can get
early warning and free some space in my diary.

I'll agree that the session was very facinating. While I am only a newbie to photography, I found the whole evening very interesting all round. It was very fast paced, and its the sort of talk that I'd need to see twice to really understand it a bit more, but excellent none the less. I don't see why there can't be these fringe topics. Its a good chance to learn something you may not even think about, and I certainly did that. Makes me want to calibrate my screen now!

And yes it did seem like Peter needed a 2nd dock! Someone should tell him about Quicksilver...

I'm sorry I couldn't make it as this would have been of interest to me
for both work & play. August is a difficult month to get people to
come to things. I was at home but decided to not come as I was waiting
for news about a relative who had been in for a minor heart op.

If you decide to repeat this I would be interested in coming.

I have downloaded the `Colour Confidence Guide for Digital Photographers' from the CC website and a lot of it is a re-run of Tuesday's talk. It does help to fill in some of the holes.
I know what you mean about the colourmunki Gareth. Perhaps we should form a co-operative for these sort of things that everyone wants, but only occasionally.

I'm also sorry I couldn't make it, and would appreciate a repeat
sometime. In particular, almost everything I shoot (I usually shoot
RAW) on my Nikon D50, has to be cooked by 1 - 1.5 stops (in iPhoto or
Aperture) to look reasonable on a computer screen calibrated with the
Spyder. Also when I make DVD slideshows for people they look horrible
when played on a domestic TV, even my own which I think is set up
reasonably. It's a real can of worms.... And don't start on printing!

Re: Narrowboat trip - Hannah & I were delighted that you all enjoyed
it, we had an uneventful, if damp cruise round the nether regions of
B'ham. Some people still treat it as a linear rubbish trip, but it's
getting better!

I'll also chip in to say that if I wasn't in Sweden I would have come
along as this subject matter is one that leaves me in tears sometimes.
I know it is cheeky but if the subject matter and/or speaker could be
repeated I would appreciate it. In fact it would be worth paying the
annual membership just for this talk.
