DVD Region coding / Mac Mini media server

I'm contemplating using my (Intel) Mac Mini as a media server, and
wonder if there's a problem with DVD Regions. Up to now I've been
using an all-region Sony player, so the problem hasn't arisen, and I
don't have many foreign discs anyway. Anyone got tips on the server
idea, (I vaguely remember Gareth(?) doing a presentation some time
ago, but I didn't pay a lot of attention because I never thought I'd
be doing it), or the region coding problem? In particular, is it
feasible/easy to use the Mini's HDD to record from a satellite
receiver, or is it best to have a dedicated external drive?
