My G5 powermac is making strange noises: tock, tock, tock. Is my hard
drive about to give up?

I'm going to switch off.

Sound like any of these?

Stick your head in and get a good listen, to make sure it's not just a
fan.
Your safest bet is to get a HD to copy on to, or recovery specialists
if it's really important.

I beg to move the motion that we boycott UPS. Why, foresooth, I hear
you ask. Well they have a pop up ad that I've only just discovered
lurking away beneath a few windows. Some silly UPS cartoon character
does a two step shuffle on a desk at "your" office. Guess what, the
tap dance routine sounds exactly like a hard drive that's on the point
of failure.
