Forget the iPad for a minute!
It has been suggested that MMUG members may like to do a `Gliding Evening' and I have been asked to organise the trip
It would take place at Stratford Gliding Club just north of Stratford.
Groups of between five and twenty can be catered for.
The cost is £35 each.
For this:
You have an introduction to the glider and its' controls.
The glider is launched from a winch and this is quite exciting.
0-60kts in about 3sec climbing at an angle of 45 degrees to a hight of between 1400' and 1800' depending on prevailing weather conditions.
You fly with a qualified instructor who will do the launch and landing and demonstrate the effect of the controls.
He will then invite you to try the controls yourself although this is not compulsory.
You can just enjoy the view if you want to.
You also get a months membership of the club entitling you to fly at club rates under instruction in a club glider.
You are welcome to bring wives and friends who can fly on the same terms.
Children are welcome but must be supervised by parents
There are certain physical restraints due to safety limits.
We can not fly people over about 16 stone or more than about 6'4" or less than 4'9".
I am looking at the dates of the 21st or 22nd July or the first week in August.
If people can let me know if they are interested and the dates they prefer I can go ahead and book us in.

Graham

Peugeot hired us last year to do a promotion for their 3008 and their video can be seen here
The club takes no responsibility for the production of this promotion but Peugeot liked it

Hi Graham

Yes, count me, though as a tall chap who's  a tad overweight, I might be over your limit.... But would be interested in attending anyway.

Early August would be best for me!

Thanks!

Chris

Great. Of course you only pay if you fly but we may be able to shoe-horn you in.

Can I presume that there is little interest in a `Gliding Evening'?

Graham.

In addition to the height/ weight restrictions, are there health restrictions? Are you allowed to do it if you're diabetic?

There are not really any health restrictions.
If anyone wants to bring friends or family to fly and/or watch they are very welcome.

I could well be interested in a MMUG outing during the first week in August. That is as long as the event is not held on Friday-Saturday. (6th-8th)
Stratford Gliding Club is just down the road from me.  I have not been in a glider for years & it would be nice to go up again.

Regards.  Dave Cooper.

A point of clarification re. the gliding. The British Gliding Association which controls the sport does not permit the use of cameras on trial flights since someone dropped one and jammed the controls.
There is plenty of opportunity for pictures on the ground and the view from aloft is much better direct than filtered by a viewfinder.

Hi All

Gliding night has been confirmed for the 5th August.

Graham can you suggest start times and confirm if we can BBQ with the club facilities?

Cheers
Benjamin

Hi Ben,

We can use the club BBQ facilities. The nominal start time is six o'clock but the club is open all day so anyone wanting to roll up early will be welcome.
We can get someone to do the cooking and provide the food if you wish, cost £10/head, otherwise we can do it ourselves.

Graham
