Sudden loss of all my email aliases.

Has anyone else had a sudden loss of all their Apple email aliases.

I had five. When composing a new email I used to use the drop-down in Mail to sent messages from the appropriate address. The alias options have suddenly disappeared.

I now have people, groups & businesses that I can no longer email because I can no longer send mail from the correct address.

Has anyone else had the same problem. If so how did they get round it ?

Is the pop-up still there? They're all showing for me. What version of Mail? I'm on 5.2.

I now only have two send from address. The one shown plus the one provided by my ISP.

I am away from home so I can not check to see what has happened on my G4 PB or my Intel iMac.

According to the documentation they should still be functioning. I'm finding vague references to bugs for some people, but can't find anything definitive. Did you try turning it off and on again? (disable the account in mail prefs and re-enable it to see if that fixes it).

Just as a note, you can have Email aliases with iCloud (just sign in and go to https://www.icloud.com/#mail/prefs-addresses) but you are limited to 3.

If you previously had a family plan then you need to migrate each account to iCloud individually and that also removes the association between the accounts since iCloud has no 'family' aspect to it.

Will the three aliases include the @mac.com options ? I stuck to mac.com after having my leg pulled over me.com.  me.com was seen as an indication of being up my own orifice.

I did try https://www.icloud.com/#mail/prefs-addresses but it took me to a page that only gave the the options to either learn more about or sign into iCloud.

Yes, all mine still show up as options. I always use the mac.com address, even though I could save a keystroke.

You can still login to https://www.me.com

Check the mail preferences in the top right 'cog'.

In the addresses section I have the old mac.com & me.com aliases listed.

It has a note that links to this…

If they are listed in me.com I'd suggest setting up a new (temporary) user account & add your me.com account to Mail. It will indicate if something is broken in your user account & mail settings. Sometimes it can be fussy about using the mac.com address so be sure you try both in the new user account Mail settings.

I did try to log onto MobileMe while away with the MB Pro. I entered username & password but all I saw was the loading wheel.

Both my iMac & G4 PB will send mail from all of my aliases. Both of them have a full list of the aliases in the compose prefs in Mail. The 'send new mail from' has a full list of aliases on the iMac & G4 PB.

The MB Pro drop-down only has the me.com & my ISP provided address as options.

Something has just occurred to me. I am going to try re-syncing Mail prefs. on the G4 PB & iMac to MobileMe. I will try booting up the MB Pro & syncing the Mail prefs on that. 

I am rather hoping that doing that will put things right on the MB Pro. I will report on the result.

I think it may be a legitimate app, but I refuse to use it because they constantly adds popups adverts to Mac sites.

Would you suggest (going by your views in this thread) that Mac users ought to do their own clean-up routines? Apart from Mail Downloads, I don't really do any. Could you do a list for those who arent too techie?

I could do, to be honest I don't do much other than occasionally start afresh when there is an OS upgrade.
