Does it matter though? Every time apple launches a product people complain it's cheaper in the US, so is pretty much everything else - food, clothing, fuel, I don't see the issue. Nothing we can do about, still very cheap, what else is there that does all that with the ease and simplicity of an apple product? 

I don't think I need one but I might get one anyway, I think it's very neat for the price!

It's a very good price seeing as mine cost £269 which equates to just over £1 per GB of storage. Now that's an expensive HDD!

I just hope this one maintains it's sync connection with your main mac as mine has proved to be the least impressive Apple kit I've ever bought - purely on the hassle I've had with it. To put things into context 90% of the problems were with syncing of content from my iMac but this isn't a facility, so enjoy using it. Just a bit pissed a such a price drop:-)

The new apple tv has a USB slot so hopefully you will be able to stream from a connected External HD if the streaming doesn't work well.

Does anybody know if it will be able stream 1080p content?

Has everyone seen the back of the ATV, it has a USB port. I wonder if there will be an option to hook up a HD & use that for storage.

It may just be for cameras until someone makes a hack for it :) The tech specs list it as 'Micro-USB (for service and support)' sounds a little ominous.

I think it needs is the ability to plug in a TV tuner to record TV or is everyone else convinced by the 'rent everything' option?

Nope, 720p is the best you will get

USB port appears to be for service and support only, not external storage. For that, try the WDTV Live.

It's an ios 4.1 feature due out next week as far as I remember. Ios 4.2 is due in November for iPad to have all the new 4.x features.

the atv looks like a pretty cool 'must have' for Xmas... for those with atv's  now, the site's blurb states that movies bought via itunes can be played wirelessly etc. through the apple tv to your widescreen. firstly, is this limited to only itunes purchase, or does it play the digital contents that you get with blu-rays discs?, secondly will it play {illegal over there i know!} 'bootlegged' music vids and 'documentary' movies d/l from the 'net? and thirdly, could the 'new' version be used as a pvr?

It seems that you will be able to stream movies that are bought from iTunes, or your personal home movies/ripped content. Not too sure about copy protected digital copies, as I have never tried these myself.

And no this cannot be used as a pvr, especially now as it doesn't even have it's own storage.

As soon as I upgrade my upstairs/kitchen tv's, I'm getting an atv for them all!

I did notice Steve was careful to say the new Ping feature works with 'iTunes purchases', meaning you can't recommend anything to friends that isn't on the store.

No, but it would be sweet if it could stream back to iTunes from a tv tuner in the USB port.

Considering most of it's made in China, how come it's cheaper in the
US than in the UK? The only differences between the countries would be
things like import duties & sales tax / VAT. Shipping costs would be
pretty well the same I'd imagine.
