I'm looking for an iPod dock which is also an alarm clock thing for my bedside table.

Would be nice if it charged iPhone, had a clock, ok ish speakers and maybe a snooze button.

Any recommendations?

Cheers
B.

Only problem with most of these is that they don't charge the iPhone, just act as speakers I don't know why.

I tried a row of them in Currys a few weeks back and out of 10 or so only 2 charged the iPhone, but all of them played the ipod bit!

Cheers

I have that issue with my logitech stereo.

The solution is to not use their power adapter, but use the iPod charger into their iPod dock connector if they have one. Mine does for syncing but charges over that as well.

Check for a dock connector on the back.

We've tried a few but have settled on the Pure Chronos.

Very happy, Dab, good speaker and fully iPhone compatible.

We've actually got the older version and it comes up with the "Not
design for iPhone message" which is actually great because it still
charges the phone but switched it to Airport mode so I don't get any
messages or call during the night and automatically switches off
Airport mode when I up plug it in the morning. :-)

When you say you tried a but of different ones and they wouldn't
charge the phone, are you sure it's not just that message you getting,
I find a lot of docks aren't compatible but still charge fine, the
compatibility refers more to the fact they're not shielded from phone
interference, leading to those annoying loud pops and crackles.

Hope that helps.

The iPhone already has the clock, alarm and snooze functions built
into its clock app, all you need is the dock. I like the simplicity of
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/aircurve at around £10 on
Amazon. I haven't tried it myself, but the reviews are very good, and
it's on my wish list

I have an Aircurve at work, and while it's a nice idea it doesn't work as well as one might hope. Certainly amplifies a bit, but it doesn't do much for sound quality. The dock connector is just a pass-through for an iPod cable's physical connector, fiddly to attach and detach, and the iPhone adaptor insert in white just doesn't match the nice perspex of the main unit. Nice as a novely, but not a serious dock.

I haven't seen anyone mention the Sony radio alarm clocks. Is there a reason for that? They certainly look nice to my mind, and some are quite compact with retractable docks, like this one:

Any thoughts?

Whilst we're on the subject of iPhone docks, I've searched everywhere and
can't seem to find what I am looking for. I have taken to watching Sky
Sports on my iPhone. This means that it has to be in landscape mode (on it's
side). What I am looking for is a small dock/speakers that have better sound
than the inbuilt speaker and is portable. It would also need to charge the
iPhone and work in landscape (permanent landscape mode would be OK).

I currently stick it in a white dock and lay it down on it's side. I plug in
my travel speakers and it works OK but is a bit fiddly and needs two USB
chargers (one for the iPhone and one for the speakers). Also if I use the
dock speaker jack I can't adjust the volume! Great design Apple.

Regards,

Pete

Currys in the Bullring has some Philips speaker docks with a swivelling dock. They seem quite nice, and reasonably portable.

Ben -

I've just seen what you want in Aldi £24=99, by Televion or simla. I
don't of course shop at Aldi myself, it's only there to keep the riff-
raff out of Waitrose...

No, that's what Sainsbury's is for. However, Aldi's olive oil recently
won a blind testing competition against other supermarkets like
Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury and I can tell you that it is jolly good.

While we are drifting off subject, does anyone have experience of operating a Mac in Gambia, or, failing that, of holidaying in Gambia?

I went some years ago. Nice beaches. Very poor country. Some interesting history. Lots of aggressive beggars.
An interesting experience but not one I would repeat.
Others may have had different ones.

I think it's 240v. We had just one power cut!
