hi ,new to apple,can anyone tell me how i can make router safe to
my computer and sons ,on wireless networks,sorry not clear as i am
old man

You need to enable some security to stop people sitting outside nicking
your net. Turn on, at the very least, WEP better still, WPA and MAC
address filtering. Sounds hard, but easy to do. Your router config page
will have these options under 'security' or 'firewall'.

Welcome to MMUG B,

Take a look at the router, and note the model & make. If you post it
here someone can probably post you the instructions, or a link to the
manual. It may help to know what version of OSX you are using.

If you turn on MAC address filtering as Dave suggested you probably
will need to enter the Airport card MAC addresses manually before the
computer is allowed to connect. On the Mac you can find it in the
Network section of System Preferences ('Apple menu > System
Preferences'). Select the Airport in the list on the left & click the
'Advanced button', then select the ethernet tab. The Ethernet ID is
the MAC address, it looks a little like this 00:AA:BB:CC:DD:00
