G'day MLUG,

Let me know if you are interested in doing a talk/discussion/workshop
this month.

If you're working on something interesting bring it along and show us.

Maybe we could have a diagnostics type meeting where everyone brings a
problem along and we try and fix it. I'm thinking of trying to get dual
graphics cards working or it might be a simple RAID setup which you are
stuck on. (MLUG takes no responsibility for any loss of data, so
anything you do bring to the meeting make sure you back it up).

David and I have been discussing on and off about how we could improve
the recordings of MLUG meetings. I think it would be interesting to work
on this together. Even if we could automate some of the post production
(such as normalise, mono, crop, split, upload, link into the dokuwiki).
Then there is also the talk of video recordings. We would like to take
it to the next level but with a budget of zero. For instance I've got an
old notebook which is powerful enough, David has an old USB camera, and
if we had a decent second hand microphone we could piece something
together and automate it for recording and maybe streaming MLUG talks.

Let us know you thoughts and if you are interested in any of the above.

from
Michael

Hi all,

If there is enough interest, I can give talk(s)/workshops on following topics:
- X Window architecture and X11 protocol - I'm working on javascript x11 implementation ( https://github.com/sidorares/node-x11 )
- D-bus architecture (again, I have javascript version - https://github.com/sidorares/node-dbus )
- writing FUSE clients in C or JS ( https://github.com/sidorares/fuse4js )
- introduction to node.js programming ( with more emphasis on using it as system scripting language instead of web framework )

Cheers,
Andrey

Hi all,
The troubleshooting meeting suits me well - I have a laptop that needs power consumption tuning (particularly the wireless card). I haven't had the chance to tune this one like I did my last one.

Andrey: I didn't know you were part of MLUG (maybe I've seen you at one and forgot, I only remember seeing you at MPUG and barcamp).

I'd be keen on any of the in depth ones, I'm sure a fair few would enjoy an intro to node js, but may not know it until they've been shown some.

I say pick something you're happy taking about and go for it :-)

A debugging workshop could be good too, but maybe more of an install fest (bring along some gear, an issue and grab someone to help fix it).

Cheers,
Dave

P.s. Sorry for the brevity, sent from my phone.

just wondering when is the next meeting and where is the venue. my first time along down here in melbourne and have a couple things i cant seem to work out and get fixed up even with all my searching of forums for the information that i need. hopefully there might be someone as good at bash as a few of the guys i knew up in brisbane that can show me what i am doing wrong.
am always interested in hearing about new versions of linux. used to work in recycled computer places and as a result i got a lot of computer bits cheap so could have several machines going and test out a few different types. have even had a go at setting up gentoo but afraid i just dont have enough idea what i am doing with that one to get it up and going.

Regards

Toni

I would like to be involved in a problem solving workshop. It's always interesting to help resolves other's issues and to see their set-ups and tools they use day-to-day.

I would also be interested on a talk in regards to monitoring (web preferably) server performance under load. Specifically on use cases, tools used to monitor and record results and how to best set-up a server to achieve best results if anyone would be interested in doing a talk on this.
