Hi,

Would it be possible to do an automatic re-direction from the historical
mlug email address to the Google groups version?

Old:
ml...@mlug.org.au

Current:
mlu...@googlegroups.com

I'm sure I could manage it if I mad MX on the mlug.org.au domain.... but
then Google mightn't accept the email from my server, although it might.

I will try re-direction for MLUG if MLUG wants to do it for the domain,
let me know and also create an MX record to my server (when I am ready).

# host mlug.org.au.
mlug.org.au has address 59.167.191.154
mlug.org.au mail is handled by 0 mail.mlug.org.au.

# host mail.mlug.org.au.
mail.mlug.org.au has address 85.214.39.40

# host 85.214.39.40
40.39.214.85.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer h1988566.stratoserver.net.

Thanks

Andrew,

Sounds like a good idea to redirect traffic from our old mailing list
address. I don't know if google will think this is spam or not but it
maybe worth giving a go.

Do you have full access to the DNS zone records for the domain?

Thanks

Playing devils advocate for a minute...

Is this proposal really the right solution? Wouldn't it make more
sense to bounce emails to old mlug@mlug address back to sender stating
that the mail list can now be found as a Google groups?

I'm concerned that in doing so the proposal is introducing a
dependency that may or may not work at present and may break in the
future, without warning.

Regards

Personally, I would prefer this group NOT to be a Google group, but it
is now but there is plenty more history with the proper domain name.

Also, nowhere in the "signature" for the Google group does it point you
to the mlug.org.au website. It's too disconnected for me, disconnected
from the domain name that is MLUG in AU.

That concern is probably valid and can be changed in a few minutes.
I'd want to run it past Mick Pope.
(For those that have manage rights, the signature can be found under
"Email delivery" tab when logging into the mlug goup)

Perhaps something like the following:

At this hour, I'd rather not tackle the wording in earnest.
