we currently have an opening for a PhD position for an intensive 3
years training program at the intersection of Computational
Neuroscience, Neuroinformatics, and Systems Biology at the University
of Rostock, Germany.
The candidate will receive a full stipend in the graduate school
DIEMOSIRIS (http://wwwmosi.informatik.uni-rostock.de/diemosiris),
which focuses on regenerative systems in general, and the process of
cell differentiation in particular. The goal is to investigate the
dynamics of connectivity in large "spiking" networks with synaptic
plasticity (using modeling, simulation, and machine learning
techniques), how these dynamics can be described at multiple levels of
granularity (multi-level modeling), and how to engineer and control
such networks in order to optimally interface with differentiating
progenitor cells.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in at least one of these
fields: applied math, graph theory, statistics, or machine learning.
Good programming skills are mandatory.
The University of Rostock (founded 1419) is located at the baltic
coast, its computer science and electrical engineering dept is
regularity high-ranked in Germany, and it provides an excellent
environment to foster the interaction of life science and engineering.
