[ML-news] Vanier fellowships, for 2011

Dear World-Class Students, and Supervisors,

Canada has recently established a top-tier fellowship program, to be comparable with other prominent fellowships, such as Fulbright and Rhodes scholarships.  These

      "Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS)" www.vanier.gc.ca 

are very prestigious, and very lucrative:

        $50K / year, for up to 3 years,

to cover the cost of PhD studies in a Canadian university.  They are, therefore, very competitive, 

awarded to only a handful of students -- in 2009, there were only 6 Computer Science awards across all of Canada!

The Department of Computing Science of the University of Alberta www.cs.ualberta.ca/ is now looking for qualified world-class students,

to begin the process of applying for this impressive award, towards receiving this award starting in July 2011.  (Yes, over one year away.)

In particular, we are now looking for students who ...

 * are just finishing their 3rd year undergrad, or finishing their first year of a 2-year MSc program

 * have stellar grades (3.8/4.0, or better)

 * have already achieved accomplishments in research, and perhaps other extra-curricular results

 * are interested in pursuing a PhD in Computing Science at the University of Alberta 

We are delighted to work with qualified students in any area of Computing Science; note that our department already has strengths in many areas, including Electronic Entertainment (webdocs.cs.ualberta.ca/~games/) and Machine Learning (www.aicml.ca/), among other topics.
