Thanks for 5.8, it works like charm. I have some request
Can you please implement the feature that turn off the info panel like (Aperture, shutter speed, iso) separately I'm using old Canon FD lens and the Aperture is not detected properly. Sometimes I just want to turn the Aperture info off only, leaving shutter speed and iso info on. Thanks

1. Good news - the monitor does not have to be switched on before the camera. Both my monitors worked when plugged in to the camera with AJ displaying live view.
2. Crop marks/dispay are not quite there yet. Here are the results from my measurements filming a ruler with 16 x 9 crop:
- Preview display - bottom of crop is behind the AJ display (top of which is 1.25), top mark at 6.4 - Filming display - 1.0 and 6.3 - Recorded display - 1.1 and 6.5
Results for 2.35 crop are a bit better with preview and filming display the same. I have never filmed with 2.35:1 so I didn't know what to expect with the resultant film - I had assumed that I would get a cropped image, but I am getting full screen image. I assume therefore that the crop has to be applied in post.
3. My Jag35 monitor has given variable result which might be due to the cable but don't think so. The first couple of recordings, the screen lost connection between moving from HD to SD, I managed to replicate this twice, but thereafter it worked fine.
4. My Marshall 5" monitor worked fine each time.
5. Full screen display does not give full screen video - it has a letterbox band on either side.
6. Histogram appears to be working perfectly.
7. I got Err 70 a few times - a) on going into playback and b) on shutting down - but not consistently. Both worked fine on (most) occasions.
I have been shooting the last few days (with Marshall external monitor) and AJ 5.7 which seems to be the most stable build yet.

Typical - as soon as I send the last email and switched on with the Marshall monitor, I got the same problem of the screen losing data when record was pressed. Dropping mirror and raising it again brings the screen back to life.
Crop marks are set to wide, but are displaying now as less than 2.35:1 when filming (monitor is now back up on recording).
CB 2.35:1 crop is showing on preview display as about 1.98:1. On recording it is showing as about 2.54:1.
AJ 2.35:1 has display of c 2.02:1 and recording c 2.59.
Thats all for tonight :).

In the last image, you see it enlarges the image. I did not zoom
myself, it is the same cadre as the rest.
One bug I found tho, when I pressed record, it lost communication.
Then I had to stop record, go into the canon's menu, go back out and
hit record again. This is the same issue with Trammell's ML beta for
2.0.8 which I always use.
You where saying about the error 70 when shutting down the camera. I
never had it, the camera shut down perfectly (according to the blue
light) each time. But I did had the error 70 once, when I hit the stop
record button. The screen format stayed at SD, it didn't popped back
to HD, which made this error pop up.
As always, great job Anthony!

Some other thing that I forgot to mention is that I'm not able to
start the camera and then plugin my monitor.
I need to have my monitor plugged in before I boot my camera.
Same thing for plugging the monitor out. The screen stays black on
what ever I do, but the camera is not in frees because I can switch
between live mode. The signal is just not being send to the LCD back.
I've also checked the recorded files, and i must say I see more
compression artifacts then normal. And the cropmarks doesn't seem to
apply. I've recorded without cropmarks, with the 16x9 and cinemascope.
All of them where 1920x1080 with 1:1 pixel size. So no difference.
As long as I understand, the cropmarks are a simple overlay
shown during the recording as a reference to the camera operator, you
are responsable for applying it during edition. I think it serves its
porpouse this way.
AJ, incredible work!
Nicolas.

Oh I'm sorry. I thought in a previous version it would actually change
the resolution. Like when you would use no crop marks it would be
larger then 1920 horizontal.

Just tested 5.8 with the Zacuto EFV. Scaled perfectly for 2.35 crop.
With HDMI plugged in q-scale -16, I got 56 mb/sec data. Using
technicolor profile. Had to turn crop lines off for q-scale. So far
no issue expect power down can get a little funny. Err message. Just
pulled battery. Wait a sec, fixed.
Any reason why on q-scale -16 with crop lines off I would only get 56
mb/sec
Using Sandisk Extreme Pro 16gb CF card. Rated: 90 mb/sec
Thanks!!

After early testing on my camera, seems to run great. Ive noticed much
better performance with the CBR q-scale. Did a 30 second clip at ~
126Mbps - only stopped recording because i pressed the button.
I just turned up the CBR to 990% and only got 75mb/sec. Im using the
SanDisk Extreme Pro 90mb/sec UDMA6 CF card. Should I be using a
different card to get 126mb/sec. Please let me know how you were able
to get such a high number. Thanks.

Indeed this is correct. The video in question was a wide shot of lots
of trees and grass blowing in the wind - lots of detail to be
recorded.
@ Nick - The exact card i used (as described on the sticker) is the
Sandisk Extreme 60MB/s UDMA 16GB - no matter what CBR % you set - the
camera will not record at a bit rate as high as 126Mb/s unless there
is a certain amount of detail to be encoded. As i understand it - the
CBR is simply the camera adjusting the Qscale on the fly so as to keep
as close to the desired CBR as possible. So if you filmed a blank
white wall with no detail, even at 990% or Qscale 16 - there is very
little information needed to encode that image - thus the bitrate is
fairly low. On this same CBR or VBR setting, if you then tried to film
something with lots of detail and or moving detail, the amount of data
needed to keep the consistent bit rate or level of quality would
vastly increase - resulting in either a very high bitrate or a buffer
overflow. So in a nutshell, with your card, if you film something more
detailed with those settings, you will probably find its recording at
the same bit rate as mine was. FYI - this was a freshly formatted
card - which also helps :-)

Can somebody please explain to me the function of techicolor lut in
magic circles and how it works, i have technicolor pic profile on
camera, thanx inadvance
big up to AJ for the great work, he is the best!!!
So far so good. Shot some videos, taken some photos. Everything went
pretty good. Didn't had a crash.
I only had problems with connecting/disconnecting my monitor while the
camera was running. But when you boot the camera when you have the
monitor plugged in, it works fine.
Cheers!
