thanks for the many small, but very useful improvements to the menu
system etc.
I noticed that my 550D now also is earlier responsive when starting
the camera. With the previous versions (including yesterdays), it
showed "BUSY" for 2-3 seconds (but only if logo.bmp wasn't present,
otherwise it showed the logo.) With today's version, it doesn't show
"BUSY" anymore but instead already responds to button presses. :-)

The new menu event handler was not tested yet on other cameras. For users of 600D/500D/50D, please check: - menu navigation (wheel should work in photo mode, but it's not enabled in LiveView) Working only in photo mode as stated - when you press SET, menu items should turn green; when you de-press SET, menu items should turn blue Working ok but the green is a bit dull/greyish - half-shutter should close ML menu Works - erase button (or picturestyle on 50D) should close ML menu Not tested - check menu navigation in the following modes: photo OK, LiveView OK, movie standby and recording Working - Menu items show red background - no problems that I can see :) - camera should not crash if recording stops due to buffer overflow with ML menu active Not had a buffer overflow yet to test
For Play mode, ML should only display the options which can be used there (the Play menu, zebras, histogram, false colors...) Only relevant options shown :)
I'm using the test build attached to the focus peak issue, so I think it's older than the one attached to this message:

Yes, i'm testing it right now...

This is ok now.

Yes but is visible only with the Easy menu because with the Advanced it gets overwritten by "Audio Meters" so at first I didn't noticed it.
> DOF makes no sense in movie mode.
Agree, but only if you don't have ML installed ;) with ML I found it not enabled because I can't clear the screen with it like in photo mode. For sure this is not a really big issue at all, there are other way to keep the screen clean like halfshutter sticky

Only with the Easy menu, and to me in that way you are doing a great job as usual in finding a good way to make all happy (who wants all the feat and who want only video or photo features).
> - Special menu for PLAY mode (press MENU to enable it)
ML start's from the PLAY menu in PLAY mode pressing menu, if ML was Easy there is only PLAy and LiveV menu, either it is full so it's ok.
I'll make some test now and will update the issue tracker and post a little report here later
And here some report about this one (note i'm using the build made only for 600D)

Confirmed also for 600D

800 confirmed fixed but only the camera off problem, I need to understand better your comment because for me too there is the problem of camera never finishing calibration.

Yes a good dark green that makes contrast with the light green ISO values

Yes again

Yes

selected items red when in rec, (nice this one).

Yes also for this fix. By the way to force a full buffer just push the CBR value up until your card can't manage it.
Hey Alex, few issue i found: - focus peak on hdmi one or two pixel offset. Very little - when you have 16:9 cropmarks the bottom bar flicks a bit
Just wandering...when you use the VGA option to see the monitor at 720 how do you go back to the full hd? At the moment after you put it back to hdmi i does not change unless you reboot the camera. I suppose that s the only way right?

- fixed issues 797, 804, 805, 807 - less aggressive redraws => less flicker - focus peaking aligned on 50D, standby+recording -> confirmed - focus peaking aligned on 500D -> confirmed in standby, not tested during record - fixed err70 on 500D related to clear screen
And an experimental feature: ML menu can be turned upside-down (on cameras without built-in support for this, like 550D).

Well, I have to admit the hidden menus were almost hidden too well for
me :-p ...
First a very big "thank you" for at last making the focus patterns and
SET cf working together at last! However, a quick question: the visual
confirmations (i.e. blink of the active points) for focus patterns are
gone in the nov.8 build on 60D, if this is a feature and not a bug I'd
like to comment that I found these very useful.

with this build (and in the previous one too) for 550D, in Video Mode

"sticky". Is it normal? In Photo Mode SET button works as expected.
Other strange thing: I mount a Canon EFs 10-22mm USM lens. In Video
Mode, in Focus section of ML menu, the focus distance is correctly
shown. In Photo Mode, in the same section, ML says: "Your Lens did not
report focus distance", but the Hyperfocal value is computed. It is
very weird.
BTW, I'm using the movie mode remap.

Visual confirmation seems to work on my 60D, but it's very brief. After increasing the delay a bit, it seems better.
The SET button shouldn't become green at all in movie mode (I've noticed this earlier and disabled it). At least this happens on my 550D. In yesterday's version it was sticky on my camera too.
To compute hyperfocal, ML only needs focal length and aperture (not focus distance).

after some tests I can confirm that the "sticky" SET button still
exist in fe9449017744 changeset (latest build) in Movie Mode, but ONLY
under the "expo" tab in ML menu, with the exception of "rec
picturestyle" item. Other tabs works well.
The focus distance report seems to work only in LV mode (both photo
and, of course, video). My fault, sorry ;)

Hi Alex The bottom bar flickers very quickly especially in 16:9 mode, on the 2:35 just a bit, And if there is the standby text on the standby text flickers as well. The white focus square does not go away if it is not in the center, If a bit on the side there is a third of it that will stay on the screen. One suggestion on HDMI Monitor, why dont you put the waveforms/histogram on one of the two bars top or bottom? It ll be nice when you shoot 2:35 format not to have it on the frame plus will look cool, maybe you could squeeze them a bit a make a bit of room for it. Thanks again for the great work you constantly do for us

- Finally stable on 500D, confirmed by early testers (this might fix some issues in 50D too). - Fixed potential stability problem when using flash (credits goto Tobias Doerffel) - Rack/stack focus are usable again, and you can also fine-tune focus with the wheel(s) - Fixed possible ERR70 in HDMI 1080i when navigating the menu quickly.
Smaller fixes / new stuff:
- No more flicker in bottom bar - Fixed buffer overflow in format/restore code (only happened if you had a lot of log files or screenshots) - Defishing is faster (almost realtime) and compatible with HDMI - Color defishing in play mode
For developers: normalized coordinates for image buffers ( http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/VRAM/Geometry ). These can simplify image operations a lot, while keeping them compatible with external monitors and different screen layouts.
New discovery (not yet implemented): Rather than allocating a copy of BMP VRAM for ML graphics engine, it is possible to use Canon's idle BMP buffer instead. This will result in: - memory usage will be reduced by 500K - accessing this memory does not overload the cache => is faster - less CPU power (maybe half) needed for zebras, focus peaking and others - it may be possible to have enough CPU power to increase focus peaking accuracy (maybe detect horizontal edges too) - and... it will be more battery friendly
This may require rewriting most graphics operations, so it will take a while until it will be implemented in main builds. For now, idle BMP buffer is only used in ML menu and bottom bar to avoid flicker.
Other remarks:
- in ML menu, when LiveView is visible (e.g. for ISO, Kelvin...), you can adjust the current setting with the wheel(s). - to place histogram and waveform in Cinemascope bars we need a dedicated screen layout, not just a cropmark. Maybe with vector cropmarks.

I for myself would also like to see the AJ and Unified version
merged. :)

I installed this today. I love it! The recording mode(red circle) is on the lower right taskbar and it gets behind on something. It's hard to tell if you're recording or not. Previously, the red circle recording mode was on top right corner.
I have another question. Outside, the moon was strong and it gave light to my patio. I'm just wondering why I cannot see anything on my Liveview even when my aperture was at f/1.4. I bumped the ISO to 3200 and it didn't help. I was trying to test lowlight. However on the street where there are pole lights, my camera sees the street.

Can you send me a screenshot? ML is forced to erase Canon's recording dot on 50D, due to Canon's redraw algorithm, which is different from other cameras.
You can also enable some custom recording notification.
On 50D, if you have movie mode enabled, the camera might stop down the lens (it won't use the settings from ML menu), so it may help if you unscrew it a bit. If you still can't see, try the night vision setting.
