Hi All, the ML it's wonderful but I want to point out few things. 1;
zebra issue. I have an external monitor and zebras are not working
properly pixel all around the screen with no sense, if I unplug the
monitor it goes normal on the camera screen( I had the previous
version the 0.1.9 and it was working fine) 2: when you take the
histogram off you still can see the gray box on the side as it is been
moved only all on the right but still there. this video shows those 2
things. last thing what is that percentage for? the one next to the
camera lens data? thanks. Anyway things look weird on an external
monitor some time gray lines are thicker sometime thinner etc..could
be my cheap monitor, I dont know if a dp6 hdsmall would do it as well.
anyone had tried with good monitors? My ext monitor will show the
image squeezed even without ML that could be a reason as well and it
is not connected hdmi

1;this video you can see an extra gray line on the top and only one
audio signal as the other one it's gone due to my monitor not centered
compared to the camera monitor
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHKLFfRvVws

2: this is the histogram issue
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmAdU6lTwMc

3: this is the most annoying to me zebras (it was working fine on
0.1.9 firmw)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN5gFXWWSqM

thanks I hope that help for a fix

I don't have any HDMI device to test (but I won't refuse one :D )

I can try to fix HDMI issues offline, but there's no guarantee.

I've received a huge font (something like 20 or 30pt). Want a screenshot?

In which build was zebra working OK on your monitor?

I can confirm that, zebra is messed up (a lot of rectangles insted of
zebra)using usb video out and histogram is shifted a bit to the right
too much.

I did not use any external monitor so far. Can anyone give me a quick
introduction to this?
i.e.
1) can I connect it to a standard TV set or PC monitor?
2) I see there 2 connectors. One is HD and other SD?

( I don't have the cables here to check what's at the other end )

I dont have eariler versions but i can test them if you will give me
links.I deleted settings to be sure if they arent overwriting
something and not giving prblems and they arent.

Can you do these steps quickly?

1. Start the camera in LV mode
2. Connect the external monitor
3. Disconnect the external monitor
4. ML menu -> Debug -> Dump dmlog
5. Wait until the red light goes off
6. On your card, you'll find one LOG file. Send it to me.

If you don't do them quick enough, the log file will have the first
entries missing (i.e. won't start from line 1). Be sure to turn face
detection off before doing that.

sorry I've just realised that things look even worst if connect it to
a hdmi tv/monitor. crops, zebras, centering of frame, it is a big mess
unfortunately. only on camera works fine.

sorry the pictures(flickr) come from a hd tv, the videos(youtube)come from a sd 5inch monitor i think it is 800x600pixel

This problem also exists on the 5d version, too,  and was never corrected,  to my knowledge.

My understanding is that the HDMI is always 960 Px across - so none of our rendering will work properly (and fixing it is not something I'd consider a priority quite yet).

The A/V out I would have assumed was the same Res as the LCD (720x480 is D1 NTSC), and even if the camera was outputting PAL, that's just a taller bitmap, so I would not have expected differences. I'll have to take a look.

Regarding the audio waveform not being shown - see if your monitor has an underscan option (all pro monitors used to have "underscan", but these days consumer monitors will often have it, but with some crazy other word specific to the manufacturer. On my samsung it's included along with the 4:3, 16:9, 4:3 zoom, etc picture size options.. they might have called it "just scan").

If we move the meters down to accomodate overscanned external monitors, they'll be too far into the main picture on the viewfinder. Of course you could compile your own..

PG,

I have kept my test programs independent of the ML code (I don't want to effect the ML codes stability).

As far as I know, the Vram addresses (that ML use) are constant, and the vram screen is not blanked out before each update.
And so I've avoiding trying to get the very latest vram parameters each call (which may be several thousand times a second)

Instead, I request that the that these are checked every second or so, and store the values globally.
I've copied this code below this email.

+) I have not 100% tested these in all scenarios - but I think they worked for HD-HDMI,  480p and the LCD screen.

+) I know that the VRAM details used here do not apply to all VRAM screen buffers.
Once I have found the structures that determine dimensions of these buffers (which might be the 'Vram_objects' in TH's code),
I will rewrite this routine with a matrix for all the Vram segments (This is not high priority)

Regards,
AJ

Sorry for my ignorance, where do you copy that code to?? I totally have no idea. Could you put it in a new firmware please? That would be very much appreciated. Tha ks

Christian,

I have an experimental collection of test routines, of which 99% should not be in ML.

The ealier routine (aj_update_vram_n_bmp_global_varables()) is not compatible with ML, but is used my experimental routines .
In this I setup screen sizes - which may be missing from the ML code.

Rather than make ML unstable - I think it would be prudent to keep things separate until there is a tangible benefit in using any of my code.

Regards,
AJ.

Guys,
I'm a 5D user listening in on the conversation. I just wanted to add
that as stated by M-L-Userrr that the HDMI issue on ML 0.1.9 exists
for the 5D as well. I encountered it over the weekend. The display
on the connected HDMI monitor blinks/freezes at times/is generally
squirrely. As well, there seems to be some sort of conflict with the
HDMI output and setting the qscale parameter. In short, recordings
stop and/or audio sync is ruined when an external display is hooked up
to the Canon's HDMI port for monitoring. When no HDMI monitor is
connected to the cam, the problem is not present. More here:
http://groups.google.com/group/ml-devel/browse_thread/thread/9ab24a6168d3f14e/ab6f78a0f520993b?#ab6f78a0f520993b

I'm not asking anyone to do anything about this. I'm just reporting
confirmation of a problem with HDMI monitoring.
