Hi -- i dont know if possible, but can we get a feature where we can
make all menus and text a dim red colour so as to preserve night sky
adjust eye vision at night. I use ML with my 550 and a telescope for
astrophotography, but find every time i need to look at the menu or
adjust it, it takes my eyes an age to re adjust to the night sky to
see what im imaging etc?

Many Thanks for looking and giving us such a fantastic piece of
software to play / work with.

I wonder if it would be a matter of re-maping the pallet for the B&W
screen mode that was recently introduced.

Sounds good, and not too difficult LOL. Does the B&W screen mode also
display the resulting review pictures in B&W? If so this would be
excellent.... Im guessing this would also be dimmable from the
standard canon menu?

Thanks again

I know I just take a long shot in the dark.. But I would find it very interesting if you found anything in the firmware relating to a possible way of synchronising two cameras, as well for photography as for filming. I would love to do some Stereo-3D with two canons, in photomode as well as in video. I checked  two 5DII last year and they were not running in sync at all. I checked on the oscilloscope and on a CRT-monitor... So did you encounter some secret code thats connected to the quartzes on the cams ?

Thanks for reading Matthias

Well... let's try.

Aside from the dark menu modes, there's also a grayscale theme for those who get distracted by colors :)

I've also rearranged the menus a bit and fixed a few minor things
(see http://bitbucket.org/hudson/magic-lantern/changesets )

I am posting here so it gets a better visibility:
In "Focus" menu in ML the lens infos are highlitable, don't you think
they should not be selectable since they are read only?
Everything seems to be workin now.
Will you open a thread for the all the releases or just keep posting
under the request thread?
Which do you think is the best approach for a better visibility and
feedback?

I'm not yet sure what's the best method for visibility - a single big thread gets large and (depending on user preferences on google groups) it becomes difficult to follow.

There's a central place where all these experimental versions are annonunced: on Twitter ( http://twitter.com/#!/autoexec_bin ), on the download box on wiki (under Twitter feed) and on Vimeo group.

Lens info in the menu is an exception right now; there's no built-in support for non-selectable items (still thinking how to implement this).

For 50D, is  the audio sync fine with FPS override?

It looks fine so far, i was able to sync it right at the suggested
fps.
A suggestion for different fps videos:could you create a txt file or
such with the number of the video and the fps along with the
recording?
Let's say you are recording MVI_1234.mov at 24 fps, you could create a
txt file named MVI_1234_24.txt just as a reminder in case one forgets
what setting he's used.

Hi Alex -- what can i say, thank you, thank you, thank you. I havent
been too well lately so only just got round to trying your
modification. Its fantastic and im sure it will please a hell of a lot
of others that do astro photography as well. Many thanks once again
for your help.

Best Wishes

Dave

Alex and others, just thought i would add a recommendation for magic
lantern to the forum i use for my stargazing / astronomy etc

Please find the link below

I wanted to than Alex for his amazing work and what best way than to
promote his work with fellow astronmers

Thanks

Dave

I've been thinking for some time about doing something like video
astrophotography with a DSLR. This involves collecting multiple frames,
aligning them, and combining them to increase the signal to noise
ratio. Normally, this is done with fairly low resolution (i.e.,
standard-def video) and HD digital video would be a tremendous
improvement. Unfortunately, it takes too much time to download still
frames over USB and I doubt that the necessary processing could be done
in the camera without extensive modification. So I'm left with
capturing frames from the HDMI output. However, the exposures in live
mode are too short to get reasonable sensitivity.

So, can anyone tell me whether it is possible to increase the exposure
time and/or gain in live view mode?

Thanks,
Greg

Set FPS to minimum value (around 2-3 fps, depending on your camera).

Are there some camera models that go longer?  If this can be made to work I will get a new camera, so I want to choose one that works best in this application.

Thanks,
Greg

Look here: https://twitter.com/#!/autoexec_bin/status/158961665264717827

If you need to record in crop mode (FullHD), only 600D can do that.

Thanks for the info, Alex.  From the fps perspective the 500D looks like the best choice, but others might be lower noise, I suppose.

Am I understanding correctly that the 600D can output 1080p from a 1920x1080 portion of the sensor array?  That is certainly not essential to my application, but might be useful.  More importantly, is it possible to do full frame by binning (adding adjacent pixels) rather than averaging?  What about gain control?  Since the HDMI output is only 8 bits per channel it is losing a lot of information compared to the 12 to 14 bits output from the sensor.

Is there a place I can find information on the hardware architecture of these cameras?  That would be helpful in understanding what might be possible.

I wonder if silent pic and FPS are compatible? That is record the long
slow frames as images without the shutter opening and closing. Will
silent pic work in FPS mode? If so you could use the intravalometer
instead of recording via HDMI for the image stack.
