The 5D Mark III already is a great camera but still there is a lot of
potential through a potential ML hack. I hope for at least: Clean HDMI
output and the HDR mode for the new 720p50/60 mode. To speed up the
process I would like start a call for donations to buy a Mark III body
for the developers, like it happend with the 5d Mark II for Alex.
The 5D3 is good, but also double the price, if you consider switching
from your 5D2 to the new one by selling the old one. A ML Hack would
definitely make it easier to justify the upgrade...

Having just paid the deposit on a 5D3, I wholeheartedly support Steven's call and will be happy to contribute as soon as there is a link!

Is there any developer to port ML on 5D Mark III?
I'll only produce a dumper and partly stubs (if they have not changed
security),
I have no time to commit on a full port and maintenance.

Yeah, security might be a problem. Wouldn't it be better to wait until
the first firmware upgrade for 5d3, before anyone commits himself to a port?

I'll try 1100D/T3 method first (no update required)

Hmmm... being a Canon person I can strongly state that 5dIII is epic
fail in terms of upgrade...still great camera but not better than new
D800 Nikon...unfortunatelly... So i doubt there will be a lot of mk3
users out there and doubt they will experiment with ML on their 4K $
camera...

as soon as the camera arrives, for sure there will be adventurer like Bloom, who will ruin their cameras in seconds. Besides, there are ppl who are so in this business that they buy in 2 digit quantities when they do; so one mk3 body is a simple thing to experiment the greatest.

One more thing, i dont believe in the long run mk3's video production capabilities will be overwhelmed by d800; in fact, aside from spec. competition, canon's video production experience, aim, already a giant video production community and their equipments will give nikon hard days to sell more d800.

Those of us with thousands of dollars in lenses are not going to jump ship to the D800 unless it were like 3-5x better.  In reality it is only a small percentage better.  The differences really only matter to new people to the camera market or people who rent.

Stifa made me want to look harder for a stronger comparison as to my needs: pushing the envelope when it comes to video, and I came across this article: http://www.eoshd.com/content/7311/canon-5d-mark-iii-vs-nikon-d800-for-video

It may be a bit out of date considering it's nearly two weeks old, but yes some compelling reasons to go to mk3 if what's released.  Sorry if someone's already posted it.

Anyone switching from canon to nikon or nikon to cannon would be better served wasting their money on a psychiatrist - lol

Either camera in the hands of a professional will yield professional results. The subtle differences yield little real world benefits that will enhance your career over the other. Green grass is green grass.

Maybe it would be better to find a way how to get the "ALL-I image
quality" function and 720P/60fps to 5DmkII ....because they are kinda
the "only" dealbreakers in mkIII

Either that, or MJPEG functionality maybe. And that's a BIG maybe.

good news, so a firmware update makes ML possible.

The MKIII sensor is the ducks nuts. It appears to be downscaling to
1080p not lineskipping, so around 900-1000 lines of detail is there in
the IPB file. It's just a bit soft from the downscaling but sharpens
up nicely in post. I just looked at a 3200 ISO prores file and I'm
speechless! The ALL-I codec implementation however is a piece of sh..
If AJ and co can crack it and make CBR 150Mbit/s+ work we'll have a
true VistaVision cine camera....Star Wars baby! I have new hope.

Yeah! And think of the potential speed-possibilities of two separate card-slots. Video to one, audio to the other, or odd frames to SD and even to CF, for HDR-Mode especially. (but it would clearly work only with all-i codec)
=)

Just got my 5D MkIII this morning. I'm keeping my t3i around still, as
ML makes it a really killer tool. But once a donation link is up I
will gladly drop some funds in the bucket, and I'm willing to test on
my mkIII also. At least until my 30 day warranty is expired. :)

Just in case Canon have made the MKIII hack-proof, we're demanding
that Canon update the firmware with a CBR ALL-I codec. More info and
Canon contact details here- http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?278799-Demand-for-MKIII-codec-firmware-update

On a similar note, like apple had to offer to refund the money to all Ipad 3 users as ordered by the australian federal court because of misrepresentation in its ads that the Ipad 3 is compatible with Australian LTE networks which it is not. Can something similar can be done here as well?

Is there any news about dumping the 5D3 fw?
Is there any camera owner who takes the (not so serious) risk?
