He's got that right. But leave us not be so prissy and pc about it. If
you mean HATE, say it, and mean it!

Only if you're so thin-skinned as to let 'em get close enough to rub
you at all, in any way. Get fur.

Especially when they make you feel real nerdy and square, like "Mr.
Jones", the man in the song, who "tries so hard but cannot understand/
Just what he will say when he gets home."

Ask Aldous Huxley on the subject of individuals seen worthy of group
hate, for crimes against the group; groups that would seeem to be
"going to the dogs" or to the tomatoes, or to the rutabagas, or . . .
"Because they do these things for the sake of a group, which is, by
definition, good and even sacred, they can admire themselves and
loathe their neighbors . . . they can enjoy the pleasures of
aggression and cruelty, not merely without feeling guilty, but with a
positive glow of conscious virtue. . . The only trouble is that their
altruism is merely egotism at one remove." _The Devils of Loudun_

Be careful on that one. It's been known to backfire and blow the real
"small-minded self-righteous type of bully" straight to Hell.

Right. It's only the person taking himself so seriously who deserves
to be hurt. But then it is always and only that person who does get
hurt, i.e. by something so awful as someone else's serious take on
himself. Meanwhile, those who are always laughing at themselves would
be immune to any such brutality as would so sorely punish that
seriously self-taken person, so described.
So what the hell are you worried about?

I couldn't have described it better.

But are you suggesting, of all things, that all cross-posting is not
EVIL, and always the work of perverts, saboteurs and Billy Goat Gruff
munchers?

Quite so.
Hear! Hear!

But what rule other than the Golden Rule, can he possibly mean?

i just saw that Dylan flick again last weekend.
"I'm not there" or whatever it's called.
at some point, i was thinking about you, momentarily.
knowing that you're a big Zimmy fan such as i am.
and thinking to myself... huh.
how everyone has their own interpretation.
"something is happening,
but you don't know what it is...
do you, Mr. Jones"
i rather liked the metaphor of the child Dylan.
a black boy called Woody hopping trains with hobos, playing his guitar
machine.
hilarious.

I can't make a statement about "people I don't like," because every
single trait I thought of I thought of a person who had that trait that
I actually like quite a bit. Soooo... It's qualities I don't like, not
whole people.
I don't like it when people:
- only listen to a certain group of people who they consider worthwhile
and discard all the rest.
- assume I'm trying to prove a point when I'm only stating my opinion.
- live so deeply mired in fear that it rubs off on me when I'm around them.
- think they know what's best for me.
- assume they know my motivations.
- don't or won't consider the consequences of their choices (how their
choices affect other people).
- believe their way of viewing things is the only right way.
- won't believe that things can (and will) get better.
and the biggest one of all?
- complain, whine, moan about something without coming up with a single
action they can take to improve the whateveritis.
