Book shelves vs. DVD shelves vs. the future...

over the years, i'm sure that you've seen seen a
zillion pictures of people's bookshelves right?

well, lately that's been changing into pictures of
their DVD shelves instead.

consider the difference between portraits which are
taken of mom, dad, and/or the kids who are posing
intelligently and happily in front of those two respective
shelves.

not that the DVD shelves will have much lasting power.

everything's eventually gonna being stored on the net instead.

won't that be a reliable collection of history and whatnot?

yep.

very reliable.

anyway... here's a video blast from the recent past
which one can contemplate in fresher contexts:

as cited from the following mw post:

enjoy.

(while you still can).

because eventually, videos like these will probably be unavailable.

all depending on who says what, and who's in power, and what
advantages there are to scrubbing the records.

because... things change.

and that's certainly one kind of change that you can definitely
believe in.

I have many books, and only one DVD. As long as something like netflix
exists, I don't see why I would ever want to buy a copy of a movie.

None. I actively _hate_ newspapers for years and years. I will say
this for newspapers - when I wanted to find out about the local
candidates for office tomorrow, Google lead me to the local newspaper
website. Other than that, I don't have any use for them.

I have one magazine subscription, which was a gift, and they are
begging me to renew my subscription. They are offering a year for $14
plus they will send two free gift subscriptions to anyone I want. If
that doesn't sound desperate enough, you should see who they're
selling ads to.

There are no printed magazines I want anymore.

so, in other words, you have no use for history whatsoever.

No he has no use for current events.
It's only history in the minds of those who come after us. We may
think it is historic, be we're only looking at it in our own context,
not in the context of history. That only happens when we're gone.

um... no.

> It's only history in the minds of those who come after us.

the historic record is as new as last Monday.

it's as new as one minute ago.

history is not written by historians, it's marketed by historians.

> We may
> think it is historic, be we're only looking at it in our own context,

anything that happens and is recorded as having happened is historic.

nope.

history happens event by event.

word by word.

...

so, anyway, as the censors delete the record, does history change?

yes and no.

...

true history is much safer when it's Xeroxed and widely distributed.

and saved.

it's value is another matter all together.
