why Obama gets a pass from the media on giving licenses to illegals

they came down very hard on Hillary, but now that she's against it,
they don't mock Obama for it.

before Hillary made the move, all the talking heads said that her
position would cost her the general election because 75% of Americans
opposed giving drivers licenses to illegal immigrants.

but you never hear them take Obama to task for it.

why not?

instead, they go on and on with about how Obama still has a good
chance to win the nomination.

why?

...

it's hard being smart in America.

it's almost as though it's frowned upon.

Obama is the dream candidate, maybe he is getting an easy ride? Who
knows.

Perhaps he may take the VP slot?

Could be that the media thinks Obama is a light weight and would
rather have the Republican candidate go up against him rather than
Hillary. The Republicans do not have anyone strong enough to take
Hillary on once the election machine gets moving.

Because Oprah says so. Read Drudge, get an education.

The polls I've seen -- they may be wrong, of course -- suggest that
Clinton is actually the weakest of the three Democratic candidates in
the general election, and Edwards the strongest. I don't think you can
make too much of these things, but the Republicans have smeared Mrs.
Clinton to the point where some people think she's Satan. (Not that
they can actually point to what she's supposed to have done, of
course.) On the plus side, since they've already smeared her, maybe
the won't be able to do more. And she is tough, the Clinton machine is
tough. I don't know if Obama and Edwards have the cojones to take on
the GOP smear machine.

And Giuliani is a powerhouse. He's already well on his way to setting
the conventional wisdom on its ear -- that Republicans won't elect a
candidate who doesn't embrace the agenda of the religious right.

Now that's wierd
In today's Globe and Mail for Iowa they have:

Hillary at 32 Obama at 22 Edwards at 15

The other side is:

Romney at 27, Huckabee 19, Giuliani 16, McCain 14

As my friend used to say about Iowa,

"That's a weird, weird place."

And no, it isn't representative of America. No place is representative
of America. There are too many Americas.

I don't think anyone expects the Iowa caucuses to be reflective of the

That's Dubya for you: does his stabbing by night.

"[Bush campaign attorney] Ginsberg's acknowledgment that he was
providing legal advice to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth marked the
second time in days that an individual associated with the Bush-Cheney
campaign had been connected to the group, which Kerry accuses of being
a front for the Republican incumbent's re-election effort.

"On Saturday, retired Air Force Col. Ken Cordier resigned as a member
of the Bush campaign's veterans' steering committee after it was
learned he appeared in the Swift Boat commercial."

BTW, did you see that business about Bush's role in covering up the
Plame incident?

WASHINGTON - Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan blames
President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for efforts to mislead
the public about the role of White House aides in leaking the identity
of a CIA operative.

In an excerpt from his forthcoming book, McClellan recounts the 2003
news conference in which he told reporters that aides Karl Rove and I.
Lewis "Scooter" Libby were "not involved" in the leak involving
operative Valerie Plame.

"There was one problem. It was not true," McClellan writes, according
to a brief excerpt released Monday. "I had unknowingly passed along
false information. And five of the highest-ranking officials in the
administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice
president, the president's chief of staff and the president himself."

No wonder he commuted Libby's sentence.

Wasn't that the point? I was suggesting that when Bush shakes hands,
