something you never thought of before

you know those moments when you first think a thought that you never
had before?
when you come to an understanding of something that you never
personally realized before...
something that occurs to you that has already been well-understood by
many others, but you have somehow missed it.
and you say:
huh, i never thought of that.
anyway, given everything that there is to understand in life, doesn't
it seem like those moments should happen far more frequently than they
do?
but they don't.
...
i find that fascinating.
...
mind you, i'm no idiot.
and i'm certainly not someone who lacks any ability for observation or
original thinking.
i'm a very creative, inventive sort of person -- so i think up
zillions of new ideas, and products, and story lines, and all manner
of new innovative stuff all of the time.
but this is much different than all of that.
this is when you suddenly realize just how incredibly stupid you
really are.
it's very encouraging.
usually.
but even when it's not, it makes you laugh at yourself.
which is a always good thing.
