The Propriatrix of Hanks-A-Lot, misc.writingville's yarn shop, is
pleased to announce the Nth Annual Great (ascii) Pumpkin Carving Contest.
Contestants are asked to enter in the following categories:

Smallest pumpkin (must be more than four ascii characters in size)

Most horrific pumpkin

Funniest pumpkin

Best caricature of a famous author

Nota Bene: There is *no* category for largest pumpkin. Do not enter
screensful of pumpkin to this contest.

Entries may be original works or "plagarized" from a collection
of ascii art; "plagarized" entries should use footnotes. All entries, as
implied above, must fit on one page or screen. Screen size will be
determined by the judge's newsreader (Yarn 0.83).

Prizes:
Smallest pumpkin: a knit watchcap
Most Horrific pumpkin: a knit watchcap
Funniest pumpkin: a knit watchcap
Best caricature: a knit watchcap

(Choice of color will be left to the winner, subject to
availability. Choice of yarn is left to the knitter.
No warranty is made that the hat will be knit by a
certain time or date.)
All judging will be done by The Pedantic Woman, who has promised
to borrow a sense of humor for the event. She will also knit the prizes.

Entries will be excepted from 23 October, 1995 to 30 October, 1995.
The winners will be announced on Halloween, 31 October, 1995.

Void where prohibited. Subject to the laws of the land. The
judge will not entertain any bribes but offers to buy her children will
be met with interest. As always, YMMV.

Oh, my. After the Pedantic Woman hsa helped me, I should be ashamed of
what I am about to do ... but then perhaps I will help her by it. (Nah,
couldn't be.)

Does this phrase ``offers to buy her children'' mean

``offers to buy from her her children''

or

``offers to buy children for her'' ?

Obviously, you have no children of your own, else the meaning would be clear.

: Ms. Pedantic Woman, Ma'am? Don't you mean "Entries will be accepted..."

You are correct in correcting my mistake. Entries will be *accepted*
on and between the above-mentioned dates. Please forgive my homonym error.

Submissions may be either to me or to the newsgroup. *Sumbissions*
may be sent to the bishopric thread; they sound as if they might belong
there.

I deliberately misspelled submissions so you wouldn't feel bad about my
correction. Yeah, right.

Igloo's having a ball. I can't get the carving knife set away from him long enough
to carve an entry of my own. Now he's vying for the smallest pumpkin
